It started with a conversation that changed everything.

What comes next?

Over the past several weeks, as we've been interviewing residents about United Supermarket and its recent closure, one thing has become clear:

Everyone has a different story.

Some remember shopping there as children. Others shared how their grocery shopping habits have changed over the past year. Many have talked about traveling to other parts of Bartlesville, Owasso, or Tulsa to find the products they need. And nearly everyone has an opinion about what they'd like to see in the future.

Rather than making assumptions, we want to hear directly from the community.

We've launched the West Bartlesville Grocery Market Study to better understand where people shop, why they shop there, what they spend, and what would encourage them to support a future grocery store or fresh food option in West Bartlesville.

Whether you shopped at United or never stepped inside, your perspective matters.

Last week, an era came to an end.

After serving Bartlesville for decades, United Supermarket closed its doors.

We had the privilege of sitting down with residents who remember walking through these doors as children and later pushing shopping carts down the same aisles with their own children. For many, this wasn't simply a grocery store. It was part of everyday life, where memories were made one trip at a time.

Although it was located in West Bartlesville, this wasn't just West Bartlesville's grocery store. It served families from several neighboring communities, becoming a place where people from across the region crossed paths every day.

So why did it close?

The answer may not be what you think.

Through conversations with longtime residents and those who know its history, we're uncovering the story behind one of Bartlesville's most recognizable grocery stores and exploring the factors that led to its closing.
