🌊 HURRICANE SEASON UPDATE

Today marks the first day of the 2026 Atlantic and Gulf hurricane season.

There are currently no areas of tropical development being monitored in the Atlantic or Gulf. However, ocean water temperatures are already warm enough to support tropical development when thunderstorms become organized. In general, water temperatures of around 78°F or warmer can help fuel tropical systems.

Our attention is currently focused on two areas in the Eastern Pacific:

⛈️ A disturbance expected to develop off the coast of Central America and southern Mexico later this week has a 30% chance of tropical development over the next 7 days. The system is expected to move west to west-northwest at around 10 mph, away from land.

⛈️ Another area of low pressure southwest of Baja California continues to produce showers and thunderstorms. Conditions are favorable for development, and a tropical depression could form by the middle of this week. This system has a 90% chance of development over the next 7 days while moving west to west-northwest at 10 to 15 mph.

While neither system currently poses a threat to the United States, they serve as a reminder that tropical season is now underway and conditions across the tropics are becoming more favorable for storm formation.

Pretty incredible experience getting the opportunity to step aboard the USS Farragut (DDG-99) during Fleet Week. 🇺🇸⚓

UCN President Todd Terrell, Executive Director Sara Galliano II, Incident Commander Josh Gill, and volunteer Anthony Brown were given a private tour through several areas of the ship, including the flight deck and some of the onboard firefighting operations. Seeing firsthand how these sailors live, work, and stay prepared at all times gives you a whole different level of respect for what they do every day.

Big thank you to the crew of the Farragut for welcoming the United Cajun Navy aboard and taking the time to share part of your world with us. Truly something we won’t forget.

According to the Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday, May 30, 2026, private citizens conducting a search along the Okanogan River located a deceased individual in the river who was later positively identified as Matthew Brown. The Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office has stated that Matthew Brown was recovered and transferred into the custody and care of the Okanogan County Coroner. The cause and manner of death remain under investigation.

The United Cajun Navy extends our condolences to Matt Brown’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.

The O-SAR team, composed of representatives from Find 911, United Cajun Navy, Sparks SAR, Team Texas K9, Black Flag Response, and Sentinel Overwatch, rapidly mobilized to support the search for Matt Brown.

Within hours of activation, Unified Command established Command, Operations, and Intelligence functions, coordinating personnel and resources from Louisiana, Texas, Utah, Wyoming, and Florida.

Team members immediately gathered and analyzed information, developed a common operating picture, and prepared assets for deployment.

The Intelligence Branch worked with Subject Matter Experts from participating organizations to collect, organize, and analyze available information. In coordination with partners, the team developed an Incident Action Plan (IAP), identified priority search areas, and produced actionable intelligence for field operations.

Simultaneously, K9 teams, surface vessels, search personnel, and Incident Command staff were mobilized and en route to Washington State.

Using intelligence products and operational plans developed by Unified Command, the O-SAR Forward Assessment Team rapidly integrated analysis and field operations, successfully locating Matt.

Thank you Chay Moore for your dedication to the mission and the outcome. You have done good work and it’s appreciated.

Although many additional field resources were ultimately not needed, the operation demonstrated the speed, professionalism, and coordination of every organization involved. This mission highlighted the strength of partnership.

Find 911, United Cajun Navy, Sparks SAR, Team Texas K9, Black Flag Response, and Sentinel Overwatch each contributed unique capabilities, enabling the team to quickly develop intelligence, plan operations, and support successful field efforts.

Most importantly, Matt was found—the outcome everyone was working toward.

GREAT WEATHER FOR THE END OF TALL SHIPS NOLA ⚓

After an incredible week along the New Orleans waterfront, the Tall Ships will depart the area Monday morning following a blessing ceremony beginning at 8 a.m., bringing this year's festivities to a close.

The good news? Weather conditions look favorable for those planning to watch the ships leave, with a pleasant start to the day expected across southeast Louisiana. There are some rain showers that will likely be moving on shore soon after.

Looking ahead, our latest rainfall forecast graphic highlights areas in red where 5 inches or more of rain could fall over the next five days. While some adjustments to the exact placement of the heaviest rainfall are still possible, the overall pattern remains consistent, with several regions facing a significant risk of heavy rain and localized flooding concerns.

If you live within or near the highlighted areas, now is a good time to stay weather aware and keep up with the latest forecasts. We will continue refining the forecast as new data comes in and provide updates throughout the week.
