Had a great time today meeting with the members of Mount Gillian Baptist Church here in Washington, D.C. Whether it’s Baton Rouge or the nation’s capital, the church has always been where community starts. Grateful for the fellowship and the conversation today.

A 26-year-old man in Maine. A father on his way to work in Houston. Two lives taken by ICE agents in one week, and neither man was the target. I'm praying for their families, and I'm demanding answers.

Today I rose on the House floor to honor the life and legacy of State Senator Larry Selders. Larry built his legacy not on titles, but on the countless lives he touched as a husband, father, friend, and public servant. Louisiana is better because of him. Rest well, my friend.

Some losses are hard to put into words. Larry Selders was a dear friend of mine and an amazing man, and Louisiana will not be the same without him. My thoughts, prayers, and condolences are with Kendra, LJ, Luke, and everyone who loved him.

Rest well, my friend.

On this Fourth of July, we should be celebrating a democracy built to outlast any single administration, and a country worth fighting for every single day.

This is not Trump’s America. This is the United States of America, and it belongs to all of us, not to one man or one party.

Happy Independence Day, LA-06.

Louisiana lost a legend this week. For more than three decades, Coach Roger Cador built the Southern University baseball into a source of pride for the Southern University Jaguar Nation and for HBCU baseball nationwide.

Fourteen conference titles, two HBCU national championships, and 913 wins tell part of the story. The rest is in the 62 players he sent to the professional ranks and the countless young people he mentored along the way.

My heart goes out to his family, his players, and the entire Southern University nation. His legacy will live on in every life he touched.
