Volunteers of America South Central Louisiana VOASCLA is a faith-based organization that serves those in need in 27 parishes.

We work to engage the energy and spirit of the people of Louisiana, to care for those who need help today & build healthier, more compassionate communities for tomorrow. Volunteers of America South Central Louisiana has been a steady organization in South Louisiana assisting people in need since 1921. reas. We are here to support abused and neglected children, youth at risk, the elderly, families, people with chronic mental illness or developmental disabilities, the homeless and many more. We believe that meeting basic needs can be life-changing; that social programs don't have to be big, complicated, expensive or impersonal; and that human services are most effective when carried out in a spirit of kindness and caring. We recognize a deep human need to express faith through action — to carry out God's will that we love one another. Our mission brings people together in service in a variety of areas; as donors and volunteers and through churches, schools, businesses, service clubs, and other nonprofit organizations. Our vision is to engage the energy and spirit of the people of South Louisiana, to care for our neighbors who need help today, and to build healthier, more compassionate communities for tomorrow.

VOA's Geaux Groups celebrated the fruits of a ten month project on Tuesday with all of us here at VOA. In conjunction with Kids' Orchestra and Baton Rouge Music Studios, they wrote lyrics, rehearsed, and recorded their own version of "This Little Light of Mine." This week, "The Raindrops," as they named their group, hosted their "Album Release Party", making their debut on the red carpet, sharing their new song, album cover, and their excitement with us. It was thrilling to see this project brought to life and to celebrate the unique voices and "light" of these wonderful participants! Congratulations to all involved on an amazing JOB WELL DONE! We had the MOST SPECTACULAR visit last week with a gentleman who's part of VOASCLA's "First Family." Clint Cheveallier literally grew up in service at what was then VOAGBR as his parents Major J.C. Cheveallier and Eula Cheveallier led the agency for 13 years beginning in 1954. After his father's death in 1967, Clint took the reins, serving as Executive Director of VOAGBR beginning in 1968 and later serving as VOA National President and CEO from 1991 to 1996. What an INSPIRATION it was to hear from Clint about his life in this ministry of service and how his early introduction led to a lifetime of helping others!
