Last week, nearly 100 young people spent their days at Camp Avondale learning new skills, trying new experiences, and making memories that will last long after summer ends.

To close out the week, campers had the opportunity to interact with local first responders, speak with divers, experience specialized equipment firsthand, and watch a water rescue demonstration.

Moments like these inspire curiosity, build confidence, and remind us of the value of investing in our youth.

Because real connections don't happen by chance — they happen when we create opportunities for young people to learn, grow, and explore... on purpose.

In the Community, on Purpose!

Tonight marked the final night of our Sensory Social series and what a beautiful way to close it out.

From sensory activities and rock wall climbing at Dick’s Sporting Goods, to a welcoming dinner experience at Cheesecake Bistro by Copeland’s, and ending tonight with free gameplay, bowling, and laser tag at Main Event — this series created opportunities for families to relax, connect, smile and simply enjoy time together.

We’re especially grateful we were able to bring back the night that was previously postponed and finish this series surrounded by so many amazing families, partners, and supporters from throughout the community!

Moments like these matter.

Because real connections don’t happen by chance — they happen when people intentionally create spaces where everyone feels welcomed, included and valued… on Purpose.

🗣️Heeeeeeee’s BAAAAAAAACK!

Today, EBRSO Deputies walked the Mall of Louisiana with Donnie — one of the victims impacted by the recent shooting incident.

Before the incident, Donnie was known for taking his usual strolls through the mall, stopping into stores, speaking with employees and connecting with people along the way. After surgery, therapy, and recovery, he wanted to return and take that walk again.

This time, he had company!

Alongside local Law Enforcement Officers, Deputies walked with Donnie as he reunited with some of his favorite stores and familiar faces throughout the mall. From smiles and hugs to emotional moments and thoughtful gifts from store employees, it was clear just how much his return meant to the people around him.

Because real connections don’t happen by chance — they happen when people continue showing up for one another through healing, support, and moments that remind us we’re never alone… on Purpose.

After being postponed out of respect for those impacted by the recent incident at the Mall of Louisiana, our final Sensory Social night has officially been rescheduled for next Thursday, May 21st from 5PM–7PM.

We appreciate the patience and understanding shown by our community and look forward to coming back together for an evening centered around connection, inclusion, and support for individuals on the spectrum and their families.

We invite you to join us for the final night of this special series.

In the Community, on Purpose.

This morning, our Community Policing Unit joined McKinley Elementary students for Bike to School Day — leading a one-mile ride from Alaska Street BREC Park to the school campus before the start of the school day.

The ride created an opportunity for students, deputies, and community partners to come together in a positive way while encouraging activity, teamwork, and community engagement.

From the excitement at the starting point to the smiles rolling onto campus, this morning was a reminder of the impact simple moments of connection can have on our youth and our community.

Because real connections don’t happen by chance — they happen when we show up, ride together, and invest in our youth… on purpose.

In the Community, on Purpose.

Tonight, we joined community members, law enforcement agencies, families, friends and supporters for a Candlelight Vigil honoring those impacted by last week’s incident at the Mall of Louisiana.

The gathering served as a moment of prayer, reflection and unity following a tragedy that claimed the life of a 17-year-old senior from Lafayette, La and left several others injured.

Through words of encouragement, moments of silence and shared support, those in attendance stood together to honor the victims and uplift everyone affected.

Moments like tonight remind us that healing begins with presence, compassion and a community willing to stand together in difficult times — because real connections don’t happen by chance, they happen when we show up for one another.
