NATIONAL RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS DAY

Kind words and actions can seem so small, but their effects are truly endless.

Acts of kindness don’t have to be grand gestures. Showing someone that you care could take something as little as paying for their coffee order or wishing them a good day. To kick off a week of kindness, here are a few more ideas: https://parade.com/985225/jessicasager/random-acts-of-kindness-week-ideas-2020/

Happy Presidents’ Day! Did you know that Maryland had a role in the birth of our nation?

“On December 3, 1783, in the Old Senate Chamber of our historic state house, General George Washington resigned his commission as commander of the Continental Army, effectively ushering in our new civilian form of government. This selfless, noble act was a defining moment for our young nation. For those of us who serve here in Annapolis, it is an important reminder to aspire every day to General Washington’s humility, integrity, and patriotism.”

Happy birthday, Susan B. Anthony! No only did she champion women's voting rights, but she also "had many ties to the philanthropic sector. First was her involvement in many organizations such as Daughters of Temperance, the National American Woman Suffrage Association, and her work with abolition, temperance, and other political issues. She was very active in raising money to support these causes and also made generous donations to the University of Rochester and other institutions."

The WGC is proud to continue her philanthropic vision by supporting local women's causes. Find out more at: www.wgchco.wildapricot.org. #WGC10 👜

Growfund

As proud members of both CatalistWomen and Growfund, we’re excited about the opportunities arising from the design initiative.

In late 2019, a giving circle infrastructure design initiative (naming and branding are underway) led by network representatives received $2 million in anchor support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to launch a five-year infrastructure project. Here, we see a major institutional funder backing the evolution of grassroots philanthropy. The initiative will launch in 2020 with four general goals: to showcase, scale, strengthen and sustain the giving circle movement. “Democratizing and diversifying” philanthropy are overarching objectives.
