YEA Harford County Chamber

YEA Harford County Chamber The Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) is an exciting year long class that transforms middle and high school students into real, confident entrepreneurs.

The Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) is a groundbreaking and exciting 6 month class that transforms middle and high school students into real, confident entrepreneurs. Throughout the class, students develop business ideas, write business plans, conduct market research, pitch their plans to a panel of investors, and actually launch and run their own real, legal, fully formed companies and social movements. Complete with dynamic guest speakers from the local business community and exciting behind-the-scenes trips to local companies, the fun, projects-based YEA! approach empowers students to take charge of their futures in a profound way. General Information Founded in 2004 at the University of Rochester with support from the Kauffman Foundation, the Young Entrepreneurs Academy today serves thousands of students in communities across America. In 2011, the United States Chamber of Commerce Foundation became a national sponsor and partner of the Academy to help celebrate the spirit of enterprise among today’s youth and tomorrow’s future leaders. The Young Entrepreneurs Academy is not only a wonderful tool to teach students about business, but also a great way to build confident leaders with values. An excellent instrument to unify the business and educational communities, YEA! continues to expand across the country to fulfill our mission of teaching more students how to make a job, not just take a job.

All students will receive a follow-up email regarding preparations for next week's big event!

Happy Monday Harford County YEA! family :)

As our students gear up for thier Investor Panel Presentations we will be hard at work practicing and perfecting!

We have been stressing some key pointers to putting together a Grade A presentation, of which many are pretty straightforward:
- Speak Clearly
- Be Confident
- Tell your story
- Engage your Audience
- Keep it Simple but Informative
- Be prepared for Questions

One thing some may not consider is the fine line on humor. More often than not, humor can hurt a presentation. For one, not everyone may have the same reaction to a joke or humorous commentary. Not to mention, you want people to focus on you and your business opportunity, not your humor.

When someone has the potential to invest in you, they want to know you are serious, dedicated, and have done your research! So make sure to demonstrate your knowledge and your passion so that investors will understand and feel that they would be regretful to not take a chance on you!

Here at Harford County YEA! students are our passion. We are proud of every single one of our students and we always encourage them to do bigger and better things, to never give up and to think big!

Chloe Meyer, from the YEA! 2016-2017 class, continues to amaze us each day. She is a shining example of how committing to hard work and remaining positive despite challenges can lead one to incredible opportunities.

Chloe's most recent achievement is being featured as a young entrepreneur on our very own local TV station, Harford Cable Network! Check out Chloe's segment (4:56) in the January/February 2018 KidsTVNews program below!

*One of our 2017-2018 YEA! Sponsors, TIC Gums, is also featured for their Ice Cream University! Applications are open now!*

YEA! Harford County Students- class is still on for tonight!

Remember, we follow Harford County Public School's closing and delays. At this time there are no cancellations of after-school or evening activities; therefore, we will see you in class tonight!

Since we follow the inclement weather policy and closings for Harford County Public Schools, our YEA! class tonight 1/9 will be cancelled. We will reconvene for class next Tuesday the 16th.

We hope that all of our YEA! supporters are staying warm and cozy despite the snowy weather this week!

Thankfully weather was not a factor for class this week as our students dove head first into the world of Advertising, Marketing, & Publicity. Students compared the marketing strategies (the 4 Ps) between three ice cream companies: Halo Top, Ben & Jerry's, and Little G Ice Cream; to see what unique strategies each company uses in order to be successful in a very competitive market.

For the advertising segment, students learned what makes an effective and exciting TV commercial. They even had the chance to create and deliver a commercial for their own business! There was certainly no doubt this activity was the favorite of the night!

Harford County YEA! strives to make learning exciting and fun, while still recognizing the serious nature and hard work required of the class.

Happy New Year!

YEA Harford County is back in action with our first class of 2018 tonight! Students will kick off the new year off learning about Advertising, Marketing, & Publicity.

Make sure to check back tomorrow for highlights from tonight's class!

30 Under 30 2018: The Teenagers

This past Tuesday our students were introduced to the business plan. They learned of its importance and the role that it will be playing to develop and further their own individual business ideas.

Many of our students are moving right along so we are making sure to stress that they maintain confidence in their ideas! Throughout this brainstorming process they have been asked numerous questions and they have been givien much food for thought; so we have made sure that they realize how important it is to determine the answers and to respond with confidence as they move forward to make their ideas viable opportunities.
