Today, June 9th 2026 the doors will open at the society at 5:30PM for those people that would like to tour the museum prior to our presentation. At 6:30PM our program will be the history of the 85th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry a local unit that entered the Civil War in 1861. Presented by Joe Sabolek & Brian Shupe members of the Blue and Gray. Also the history of the Springfield rifle will be discussed.
Come on out for a great night of entertainment.

Early 1900’s picture taken in Rostraver Township along the Youghiogheny River across from West Newton. Shows the West Newton Cemetery which was created in Rostraver Township in 1852. The Kerr School can also be seen in the picture, Rostraver’s first modern school compared to the many one room schools that existed in the Township.
In 1947 the area shown in this picture would be annexed from Rostraver Township by West Newton.
