🚨 FLOOD WATCH NOW IN EFFECT 🚨

The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a Flood Watch for Hardin, Logan, and surrounding counties, in effect from 7:00 PM EDT this evening through 12:00 PM EDT Monday (Sept 21).

🌧️ The Details:
Heavy showers and thunderstorms will move through the area overnight. We are expecting widespread rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches, with locally higher amounts possible. Because the ground is already saturated, this heavy rain brings a high potential for flash flooding.

⏰ Watch Duration:

Start Time: 7:00 PM EDT (Sunday, Sep 20)

End Time: 12:00 PM EDT (Monday, Sep 21)

📍 Impacts:
Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying or flood-prone locations.

⚠️ Safety Reminders:

Stay weather aware and be prepared to take immediate action if heavy rain begins or if a Flash Flood Warning is issued for your area.

Avoid low-lying areas and exercise extreme caution when approaching highway dips and underpasses.

Never drive through flooded roadways—Turn Around, Don't Drown!

Stay tuned to Hardin & Logan Co. Weather Statements for the latest updates. We will continue to monitor the radar and issue further alerts if conditions worsen.

WEATHER OUTLOOK: Severe & Flooding Potential for Today (Sunday, Sept. 20)
Here is the updated outlook from the National Weather Service in Wilmington regarding our weather setup through Sunday evening

🌧️ Excessive Rainfall & Flooding Risk: Level 2 (Slight) Risk for Excessive Rainfall covers Hardin, Logan, and surrounding counties. Occasional showers and heavy downpours will persist throughout the day. Scattered flash flooding is possible, especially in low-lying, urban, or poor-drainage areas.

⛈️ Severe Weather Risk: Level 1 (Marginal) Risk for severe storms remains in place across our area. Isolated strong-to-severe cells are possible mainly Sunday afternoon into the evening, with damaging, gusty winds as the primary threat. Any thunderstorm will carry a risk of frequent lightning.

📉 Key Takeaways & Safety: Turn Around, Don't Drown: Never drive through flooded roads or standing water. Watch for quick water buildup in low spots during heavy downpours. Keep a way to receive weather warnings if alerts are issued today. Our team will monitor radar and local observations closely throughout the day. Stay safe and stay tuned!

TRAVEL ALERT: SR 117 Impassable in Huntsville

Per the Huntsville Volunteer Fire Department, State Route 117 is currently impassable within the Village of Huntsville due to severe localized flooding.

Drivers are strongly urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

Flooding Safety Reminders:
Hidden Hazards: High water hides true water depth, washed-out road sections, and submerged debris.

Loss of Control: Just a few inches of moving water can cause vehicles to lose traction, while deeper water can easily sweep a vehicle away.

Turn Around, Don't Drown: If you encounter a flooded roadway, stop, turn around, and use an alternate path. Never risk your life—or the lives of first responders—by driving through floodwaters.

Stay safe, stay alert, and do not attempt to drive through high water!

SEVERE WEATHER CHANCE: Isolated Strong Thunderstorm Potential

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Mesoscale Discussion covering central Ohio, including Hardin and Logan counties.

What to Expect:

Threats: Isolated strong to severe wind gusts between 45–60 mph with any stronger storms that develop.

Timing: Through early evening.

Watch Status: Unlikely (5% chance).

Discussion:
Strong afternoon heating (temperatures in the 80s to near 90°F with high humidity) is allowing scattered thunderstorms to develop. While weak mid-level lapse rates will keep most storms from lasting long, steep low-level temperatures and heavy moisture could produce brief, sporadic damaging wind gusts in localized areas.

Stay weather aware if you are outdoors this afternoon and early evening!

Flash Flood Potential This Morning
Heavy rain and thunderstorms are moving northeast across our region through late Saturday morning. Because our local soils are already partially saturated from rain earlier this week, additional heavy downpours could quickly lead to runoff issues.

Impact Area: Hardin & Logan Counties

Timing: Active through late Saturday morning (~10:00 AM EDT)

Rain Rates: Hourly rainfall up to 2.5 inches, with localized totals reaching up to 4 inches in areas where storms stall or repeat.

Primary Threat: Isolated to widely scattered flash flooding, particularly in low-lying, poor-drainage, or flood-prone areas.

Safety Reminders:
Never drive through flooded roadways—Turn Around, Don't Drown.
Keep an eye on local creek and stream levels if you live in flood-prone locations.
Monitor trusted weather outlets for official alerts or updates throughout the morning.

Timing & Status: In effect until 9:30 AM EDT (Observed Flash Flooding).

Current Situation: Local law enforcement reports active flash flooding across central Logan County, with high water over multiple roadways in and around Bellefontaine.

Rainfall Totals: 3.5 to 4 inches of rain have already fallen, with an additional 0.5 to 1 inch possible.
