STATEMENT | HUMANITARIAN CONCERNS IN SOUTH AFRICA
Department of Information & Communication [DIC]
It has been brought to our attention the humanitarian challenges affecting vulnerable foreign nationals in South Africa, particularly Zimbabwean, Malawian, Nigerian and Ghanaian citizens among others, by a group seeking the guidance and support of the World Humanity Commission.
We understand that while some repatriation efforts are underway, many individuals remain in difficult circumstances marked by uncertainty, hardship, and concerns for safety and wellbeing. We also recognize the growing impact on mental health across affected communities.
Our steady leadership for vulnerable communities doesn’t go unnoticed. WHC speaking up for Zimbabwean, Malawian, Nigerian, Ghanaian nationals and others is in action.
At this stage, the situation remains under the direct coordination of the affected countries through their embassies in South Africa, working closely with their home Foreign Ministries and South African authorities to develop sustainable responses and support those most in need, especially women and children.
We advise continued monitoring, as WHC and other international organizations are observing developments closely. Should circumstances evolve to require broader humanitarian intervention, WHC will assess its role accordingly.
