On this day we honor the lives, sacrifices, heartbreak, and memories brought by the attack on Pearl Harbor some 84 years ago. We cannot let time erase the memories of those who faced the ultimate sacrifice and met it with courage and patriotism.

As Chair of the Whatcom County Young Republicans, I am deeply shocked and heartbroken by the horrific shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University today. Charlie is a tireless champion for conservative values, free speech, and empowering the next generation of patriots through Turning Point USA. This act of senseless political violence is an attack on all of us who believe in America’s future.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Charlie, his wife Erika, their young children, and the entire TPUSA family. We pray for his swift recovery and strength during this unimaginable time.

To the perpetrator: Justice will be served. Violence has no place in our democracy, full stop. We stand united against hate and division, and we will continue fighting for the principles Charlie has so boldly defended.

“What can I do to stay informed?”
We hear this a lot and believe us, we get it! It can be a lot to try and find information or stay informed about what’s going on in local government!

Here are some ways to keep yourself involved and educated so you know how your representatives are showing up for you.

- Attend a County or City council meeting.
Did you know that these meetings are open to the public, in person or via zoom? Check your city or county website to see dates and locations and make it a point to attend one!

- Read related articles that discuss local issues.
Take a few minutes to research the topic. Use the article as a starting point to find out more info!

- Talk to your representatives about an issue you see and ask them what they can do to help.

- Know your district!
Make sure you know who represents you in local and state government!
