Dr. Lowell Holtz

Dr. Lowell Holtz Dr. Lowell Holtz is a candidate for Wisconsin Superintendent of Public Instruction. Dr. Holtz (EdD) is a candidate for Superintendent of Public Instruction of Wisconsin.

He has taught in classrooms, been recognized as a Wisconsin Principal of the Year, and has led district improvement efforts as Superintendent of the Palmyra-Eagle, Beloit, and Whitnall School Districts. He spent much of his childhood in Milwaukee’s Sherman Park neighborhood, and is the son of a retired Milwaukee Police Officer. Lowell is married to Dr. Susan Holtz, his high school sweetheart and wife of 36 years, and together they have raised five grown children. In addition to his roles in education, Dr. Holtz has over two decades of experience in law enforcement. As your state Superintendent of Instruction, we will work together to – 1. Ensure the children of Wisconsin are competing on a global level 2. Return local control to your districts 3. Change the culture and climate of our educational system to let our teachers know we value the work they do 4. Raise graduation rates by closing achievement gaps 5. Advocate for strong schools, no matter if they are public, private, parochial, charter, or voucher schools Please visit www.kidservative.org to learn more - and don't forget to vote on or before February 21!!

Mission: The role of schools throughout history has been to prepare our children, with the help of families, religious institutions, and other community organizations, to be productive citizens of our community. In order to improve opportunities for our children, schools need to strengthen the partnership between the home and our classrooms. Schools that create learning organizations and collaborative learning teams, and place an emphasis on serving children in partnership with their communities, will be successful. We will use the experience gained teaching in the classroom, as a Wisconsin Principal of the Year and a district Superintendent - combined with 20+ years in law enforcement - to provide safe environments and engage and inspire children. Success is a direct result of the team with which we work. When schools partner with families and communities to form strong teams, everyone wins.

Q is for Quality

As a National Distinguished Principal and a Wisconsin Principal of the Year, recognized by Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, AWSA, WASB and WASDA, I will contend nobody is a stronger proponent of public education than me. But we can do better! We rank worst in the country (#50 out of 50 in grad and achievement gaps), and send too many graduates to University of Wisconsin-Madison and other UW System colleges who require remedial education. Learn more about my campaign here: http://www.kidservative.org/q-is-for-quality/

Q is for Quality schools and a Quality K12 education for our kids! When a child earns a high school diploma in Wisconsin, most parents would assume their student is ready for college. Who wouldn’t when the current motto of DPI is: “Every Child a Graduate, College and Career Ready”? Unfortunately,...

“Let me be clear – more of the same is not enough.” As a challenger for Superintendent of the Department of Public Instruction (DPI), I could not agree more. But the quote isn’t mine, it comes from Tony Evers’ first inaugural address, on July 6, 2009, having already served as Deputy Superintendent…

S is for Safety - in our schools and in our communities. Wisconsin has the highest minority graduation gap in the country. We rank dead last – #50 out of 50 – and for two consecutive years. We also rank worst in the country for our racial achievement gap. Is it a coincidence, then, that minority men resort to crime and, research has shown, are incarcerat...

Musical Madness!

March is Musical Madness too - so "Congratulations" to all our musicians performing this month and/or participating in the Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) festivals! Great extracurricular activities keep our kids in school! Many "Thanks" go to the WSMA and the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA), plus all the other great clubs and organizations in our schools, for engaging our kids and improving their skills! Thank you also to the teachers, staff and parent volunteers who lead them and give so selflessly of their time!

It’s hard to ‘Always Serve Kids’ (ASK) when they don’t come to school – and truancy is a BIG PROBLEM in many of our communities. In high school, my regular attendance was driven by a few special teachers, my parents’ ire, and a love for playing nose guard and center on our football team. What kept...

Parents – not bureaucrats in Washington DC – know what’s best for their children. For proof, compare the outcomes of the US Department of Education (ED) and Sonya Carson. Between 2010 and 2013, ED distributed $3.5 billion in the form of School Improvement Grants (SIG) to school districts around the...

Did Republicans in Congress further empower Superintendent Tony Evers?

Please read and share. Good reason to vote for Dr. Lowell Holtz on April 4 http://www.rightwisconsin.com/opinion/perspectives/did-republicans-in-congress-further-empower-superintendent-tony-evers

Speaker Ryan and Congressional Republicans are right – the repeal of ESSA regulations certainly gives states more freedom to comply with federal K-12 education law. But, in Wisconsin, does this only serve to further empower Superintendent Tony Evers, an opponent of education reform and school choice...
