This morning our crews completed a water rescue. The pup got away from her owner on their morning walk, and a neighbor saw the dog and called 911. Fire/Rescue personnel arrived on scene and was able to save the dog, who was only shaken up and cold, and she was returned to her owner.

Update: Two dogs and a cat have been returned to the owners after receiving treatment. The third dog is being held for observation. Thank you to the City of Beloit Police Department and the Town of Beloit Fire Department for your assistance today!

Original: The City of Beloit Fire Department responded to an living room fire in the 2800 block of Deer Path Way just before noon today.

Upon arrival, firefighters noticed smoke coming from the roof area but no visible flames. While no one was home at the time of the fire, we were informed that four dogs and two cats were in the home. Three dogs and one cat received oxygen and water at the scene by firefighters. One dog was turned over to its owner. We are saddened to share that the second cat perished.

The three dogs and cat were transported by the Beloit Police Department’s animal control unit to receive additional treatment.

Firefighters from the Town of Beloit Fire Department also responded to the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. A damage estimate is not available at this time.

Last night our Explorers teamed up with some Town of Turtle Fire Department personnel and were able to practice cutting a car to extricate a patient. During this training Explorers familiarized themselves with many tools such as hydraulic rescue tools (also known as “The Jaws of Life”), rescue saws, and other hand tools. Explorers were able to learn the some of the necessary skills to pop open doors, break and remove windows, stabilize a vehicle, and even how to remove the roof.

On 04-17-18 the Town of Beloit Police Department received a complaint about a phone call that one of our citizens received from a subject claiming to be Officer Jeremy Paige from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office. The subject told the citizen that she had jury duty coming up and was pressing her about it. The Rock County Sheriff’s Office and the Milton Police Department also handled similar calls earlier in the day. Officers attempted to speak to the subject but were hung up on. During one of the incidents the person claiming to be an officer told the citizen he would meet them at the court house and escort them in. Please be aware that this is a scam. There are no deputies with the Rock County Sheriff’s Office with that name and the Rock County Sheriff’s Office does not contact people by phone regarding jury duty. We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to attempt to identify the subject responsible for the scam. If you receive a call similar to this please do not give the caller any personal information. Also please notify law enforcement.

Today our explorers learned how to survive longer if they were to run low on air in a fire by turning 5 minutes of air into 25 minutes of air. They were also able to practice saving each other with our “buddy breather” system while being blindfolded to simulate smokey/low visibility conditions.
