Bemidji Severe Weather Updates

Bemidji Severe Weather Updates Im a long time severe weather enthusiast aiming to increase public awareness around severe weather to Bemidji and the surrounding area.

Ill be posting updates on upcoming storms once I have enough confidence of something happening.

Sorry for my blunder today. I don’t have my laptop so I couldn’t check timing or whether anything would hit or not. I relied 100% on the SPC/NWS website. I’ll do better in the future. I’ll have my laptop back tomorrow afternoon so I’ll be able to do better forecasting. Again due to vacation I won’t be posting marginal risks. Once again I’m sorry about today it won’t happen again.

New risks slight 15% risk for lime to tennis ball sized hail and wind gusts up to 80mph. Marginal 2% risk for tornadoes. Risk includes Bemidji, bagley, blackduck, cass lake, kelliher, park rapids, walker and the surrounding area. I am not sure about timing as I don’t have access to my laptop but expect evening hours.

NWS has issued a slight 2/5 (15%) risk for damaging winds up to 70mph for tomorrow night. Timing is uncertain as im fairly confident based off early models nothing will fire this far north. So far on models I see nothing firing in our area but will update tomorrow if anything changes. This risk includes the entirety of Minnesota so kelliher, Bagley, blackduck, park rapids, walker, red lake etc will all be included.

Marginal 1/5 (5%) risk for severe weather today. Again timing is uncertain due to models not picking anything up happening around here. Just know it'll be at night if anything happens. Risks are damaging winds up to 70mph and tennis ball sized hail. This risk includes all of the above cities mentioned.

Once again mentioning. A marginal risk like today means there's a 5% chance of something happening and 95% chance of nothing happening. Tomorrow's slight risk. 15% chance of something happening 85% chance of nothing happening. Remember this if you chose to attack me for nothing happening. (I also mentioned I don't think anything will fire)

Also just a note 2 terrible weather apps to avoid is accuweather, and clime. Accuweather is just inaccurate with its forecasts. Clime I downloaded randomly and without fail every single severe weather event I will get severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings from other places than Bemidji. So avoid that due to added fear.

I will be going on vacation today so I will not be posting about marginal risks but will still post about slight+. https://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/ This is where I get risks at some you can check when concerned. Have a great weekend everyone, sorry for the long post.

Nws has issued a slight 2/5 (15%) risk of severe weather with the primary threat being significant damaging hail up to tennis balls, and damaging winds up to 70mph. They have also highlighted a 2% tornado risk. Timing of severe weather is 8-10pm. Cities like Bemidji, bagley, case lake, walker etc are in this risk. Kelliher is in the same risks except there’s a 5% tornado risk there. As always this means there’s an 85% chance we see nothing. I’m not guaranteeing anything.

07/19/2026

Nws has issued a slight risk (2/5 15%) risk for Bemidji and the surrounding area. Main threat is damaging winds up to 70mph and a marginal risk (1/5 5%) for pocket change sized hail. No tornado threat. Bagley is in a risk for up to 80mph but none of the other major small towns in the area are under the risk. Timing for severe weather is midnight to 3 am.

07/16/2026

marginal risk (1/5) for damaging wind/hail issued by the nws. I would be amazed if we got severe weather. The risk will be the overnight hours. Stay safe in the hazardous air quality.

No storms anticipated over the next 5 days however a bit of a heat wave is hitting with temps reaching low 90s and heat index in the mid 90s. Enjoy the break from storms and do some fun stuff! This post is valid for Bemidji, Bagley, Kelliher, clearbrook, cass lake, blackduck, red lake, and all other cities in between!

Storms have fired early and are looking positively for Bemidji however a known possible tornado producing severe thunderstorm is currently heading vaguely in the bagley/blackduck/turtle river direction.

07/06/2026

Slight update bagley area is no longer in a risk for significant damaging hail but the tornado risk has spread to cover the entirety of Beltrami and Hubbard county. Same 15% damaging wind risk but also an upgraded 15% hail risk.

The tornado risk spreads from cass lake to kelliher, all the way to bagley. Those are some towns I’m asked about often so those are all places with the same risks as Bemidji.
