10/24/2026

The summer/fall transition is officially coming to an end today. Today will likely be the last day until April/May where it reaches above 60 degrees. Snow remains possible over the next couple weeks but not guaranteed. Temps will also reach freezing a lot more. Get your jackets out and shovels ready!

10/21/2026

Near the end of the weekend things will begin to cool off. We'll start seeing average maybe even below average temps for October for several days. Highs in the upper 30s-low 40s and lows in upper 20s to low 30s. I would love to give more information but the website I use for forecasting has just received a catastrophically bad update to its design so it will be a couple weeks to fully learn the new update.

Temps will drop slightly near the weekend, with highs in the mid-40s and lows near freezing, but it shouldn't last long and should rise back to highs in the 60s. Overall outlook is still pretty warm and dry for the next few weeks. We could see some rain Friday with possible snowflakes mixed in. Now is when we seriously need to prepare for snow. Not only is snow beginning near the Canada/US border, but several long-term models are pointing to a snowstorm near the end of the month. I will say lots of things can and will change in 2 weeks, but it's something to be aware of. We will likely see our first snow by Halloween.

As many of you know as winter approaches we begin losing daylight starting in August and speeding up. October is the month we lose the most daylight. Averaging roughly 2-3 minutes of daylight lost per day adding up to a total of 90 minutes total over the month. It’s unfortunately that time of year where days will be short and nights will be long.

October is currently looking to be one of the hottest on record, probably top 10. It's also going to be very dry. Rain is possible tomorrow, but other than that, it's possible we won't see any rain throughout the entire season. Highs will likely remain in the mid-50s to 60s throughout the month, with lows in the 30s-40s and possible dips to below freezing. Peak fall foliage will also be a bit late this year, peaking around October 8th. Overall, it's going to be an absolutely beautiful month; I hope everyone can get out and enjoy it!

I'm looking for a few volunteers who can help out with my page. The goal of my page is to make weather information accessible and understandable for everyone, regardless of knowledge about the weather. I often times accidentally include too many technical terms that make it difficult for people with minimal knowledge of the weather to understand. I'm just looking for people with minimal knowledge of the weather to read over some posts before I post to make sure it's accessible regardless of knowledge. I wish I could pay, but I don't earn money from this page, so it's just volunteer work, but it should only be a few minutes every couple of days

As many of you know, this year we have an extremely powerful super El Niño that is predicted to become the strongest on record. I looked into first snowfalls, average temps, and total snowfall. Here's my prediction for the 2026-2027 winter. First measurable snowfall typically arrives mid-to-late October, and that still seems likely. El Niño shouldn't affect that too much. On average, Bemidji receives 46.7 inches of snow. For this year, I would predict we'll see roughly 25-35 inches of snow. Any big snowstorm will likely wait until January-February-ish. It's hard to predict temperature averages, but looking at the previous super El Niño events, it's a fair estimate to say temps will generally be 5-10 degrees warmer on average. This does not mean it will be warm, but for example, January has historically had a high of roughly 15-20 degrees during a super El Niño, so we could expect about that, with overnight lows ranging from -5-5 degrees. Arctic blasts will still happen; they will just be less frequent. We can expect Lake Bemidji to fully freeze over around mid-December, as opposed to its typical time, which is late November. Remember, I am not a trained meteorologist; this is purely an estimate based on previous super El Niño events, although no one can truly predict how warm it will be, since this is being forecasted as the strongest El Niño in recorded history.

I just feel like I should make a post about this. From the bottom of my heart I appreciate every single one of you that come for updates, support me and interact with my posts it truly means the world to me. I’m doing what I love most so having people stick around and support me during it truly means a lot. Posts next year will start getting better. I’m heading to Mississippi state university next year for the broadcast meteorology program. I will still absolutely be posting summer and winter updates but I might be a bit more quiet during the school year. Hopefully as time progresses my posting gets better and better as I learn more! Once again thank you to everyone for sticking around!

Little bit of a rainstorm coming. Over Monday and Tuesday we will have near constant rain. Rain totals add up to around 0.5-1" overall which will be great! Trees are turning and soon everything will be orange and red! We can also expect our first freeze within the next 2-3 weeks unlikely to be sooner but not out of the picture entirely.
