Bensalem Volunteer Fire Department

Bensalem Volunteer Fire Department Established in 2024, BVFD proudly serves Bensalem Township, covering 22 sq. miles and 60,000 residents.

An all-volunteer department with 24/7 stipend four-person duty crews made up of our dedicated members. In 2021, the leadership of Bensalem’s six legacy fire companies—Cornwells Fire Company, Eddington Fire Company, Newport Fire Company, Nottingham Fire Department, Union of Cornwells, and Trevose Fire Company—began discussing a vision to unify into one department. Driven by a commitment to meet fut

ure challenges in fire service and enhance the safety of Bensalem Township, these dedicated leaders planned a comprehensive path forward. After over two years of careful planning, the Bensalem Volunteer Fire Department officially launched in June 2024, following a historic Bensalem Council meeting. Today, as a unified department, we proudly protect all of Bensalem with a strengthened, community-focused approach. Stay connected for updates on our work, fire safety tips, and community events as we serve together as one.

Last week, 4 members from BTFR Bensalem Township Fire Rescue Departmentand BVFD traveled to Spartanburg, South Carolina to attend Training to Perform Under Pressure Heavy Vehicle Rescue School.

This intensive 40 hour program focused on lifting, stabilizing, and extricating patients trapped under heavy loads and vehicles. The last day was all scenario based and squads worked together and responded in like a real large scale incident

The hands on training provided our members with valuable experience and knowledge that can be brought back to better serve our community.

This opportunity was made possible at no cost to our department thanks to the Gary Sinise Foundation. We are extremely grateful for their continued support of first responders and training initiatives.

They were also generous enough to host our members and provide lodging while allowing us to better understand the logistics and setup involved with running this program. This experience will help prepare us as we bring this specialized training to Bensalem later this fall for our upcoming class at the end of September.

We are fortunate to continue expanding our capabilities and bringing high-level training opportunities directly to our area.
