Bensalem Volunteer Fire Department Established in 2024, BVFD proudly serves Bensalem Township, covering 22 sq. miles and 60,000 residents.

An all-volunteer department with 24/7 stipend four-person duty crews made up of our dedicated members. In 2021, the leadership of Bensalem’s six legacy fire companies—Cornwells Fire Company, Eddington Fire Company, Newport Fire Company, Nottingham Fire Department, Union of Cornwells, and Trevose Fire Company—began discussing a vision to unify into one department. Driven by a commitment to meet fut

ure challenges in fire service and enhance the safety of Bensalem Township, these dedicated leaders planned a comprehensive path forward. After over two years of careful planning, the Bensalem Volunteer Fire Department officially launched in June 2024, following a historic Bensalem Council meeting. Today, as a unified department, we proudly protect all of Bensalem with a strengthened, community-focused approach. Today, BVFD and Bensalem Township Fire Rescue Department responded to an AFA in the 28-41 box. Engine 222 arrived and reported smoke showing from a first floor apartment. Tower 16 went on scene immediately after and took the first due truck responsibility. Battalion 222 and Deputy 68 had Bensalem command. Battalion 28 was Division 1. Interior crews found a small fire in the bedroom that was knocked quickly, all searches negative. Incident is under investigation by the BTFMO.

8/13 - BVFD was dispatched to a marine rescue on the Delaware River for the report of someone in the water moving downstream with no PFD. Rescue 16 (Duty Crew 16) responded to launch Marine 68 immediately. Assistant 68-1 had Bensalem Command. Marine 16 responded to Salem harbor and staged to launch. Marine 68 located the victim along the shoreline of Mud Island, and evacuated them to land where Marine 16 was staged.

8/12 - Duty crew 88 was dispatched for a dumpster fire. While responding, the county upgraded the assignment after getting reports of smoke from the building. Engine 88 went on scene as FDE and reported a trash compactor on fire up against the building. Assistant 68-1 established Bensalem Command. Engine & Ladder 65 as well as Tower & Rescue 16 also operated on the box.

Early this morning, units responded to the 88-9 box for a reported dwelling fire. A fire in the garage was located after opening up the dwelling. Engine 65 and Squrt 44 went into service while Tower 16 took the first due truck company assignment. Deputy 68 took Bensalem Command. Assistant 68-2 was division 1.

Last night the department trained on the 3rd due Engine Company responsibility. This role involves obtaining a secondary water supply and stretching an attack line to the Charlie side. This line more often than not is a longer attack line, consisting of the 400’ or 2-1/2 leading into a bundle/rack.
