Early Tuesday morning, Bensalem Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire in the Andalusia section of the township. Crews arrived within minutes to find significant fire conditions inside the residence.

Firefighters worked hard to bring the fire under control and extinguish the flames. Three residents were transported by EMS to a local hospital, where they were treated and released.

The fire remains under investigation by Bensalem Fire Investigators.

House Fire – Bensalem Township

Early this afternoon, Bensalem firefighters responded to a reported house fire in the Andalusia section of Bensalem Township.

Firefighters quickly worked to extinguish the fire and prevent further damage. Tragically, this incident claimed the life of a Bensalem resident.

Our thoughts are with the victim’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by Bensalem Fire Investigators and Bensalem Police Detectives.

We thank all responding personnel for their efforts and dedication to protecting our community.

This weekend, the Bensalem Fire Department hosted a Fundamentals of Heavy Vehicle Rescue class presented by Training to Perform Under Pressure

The weekend began Friday evening with a classroom lecture covering the fundamentals, considerations, and challenges associated with heavy vehicle rescue. Training continued all day Saturday and Sunday with hands-on tool labs followed by breakout sessions where crews worked through a variety of heavy vehicle rescue scenarios.

Throughout the weekend, crews covered load assessments, weight calculations, equipment capabilities and limitations, proper rigging, stabilization, and lifting fundamentals. Members then had the opportunity to put those skills to work during realistic scenarios, requiring crews to assess each situation, develop a plan, and safely stabilize and lift heavy vehicles.

Heavy vehicle incidents can present unique challenges that go well beyond a typical vehicle rescue. Training like this helps ensure our firefighters have the knowledge, skills, and understanding of their equipment needed to safely and effectively operate at these more complex incidents.

Thank you to the instructors from Training to Perform Under Pressure for bringing their knowledge and experience to Bensalem and providing our members with a great weekend of hands-on training.

Today we remember the 2,977 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the courage and sacrifice of the firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, and civilians who answered the call that day.

Today, BVFD and Bensalem Township Fire Rescue Department responded to an AFA in the 28-41 box. Engine 222 arrived and reported smoke showing from a first floor apartment. Tower 16 went on scene immediately after and took the first due truck responsibility. Battalion 222 and Deputy 68 had Bensalem command. Battalion 28 was Division 1. Interior crews found a small fire in the bedroom that was knocked quickly, all searches negative. Incident is under investigation by the BTFMO.

This past weekend, members of BVFD alongside Bensalem Township Fire Rescue Department completed Structural Collapse Operations training. Crews worked on essential skills and techniques to safely operate during structural collapse incidents.

Last night the department hosted an all hands training at station 16 to review methods of stabilization. This included the use of struts, chains and grip hoists.
