Bentonville Parks and Recreation to begin opening facilities.

Since early March, BPR has regularly visited with local health officials to make decisions regarding our public facilities. This week, the Arkansas Department of Health lifted a few restrictions on recreation amenities. Based on these new guidelines, we are excited to begin the process of cautiously reopening some of our recreation amenities. We expect to be able to announce a schedule for Melvin Ford Aquatic Center next week.

Additional information is available on our website at www.playbentonville.com. You can also email us at [email protected].

Camp Bentonville | Bentonville, AR

The Covid-19 Virus has caused the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) to issue a Directive suspending all activity, including preparations and training staff, for Youth Day Camps. The ADH will not revisit this directive until May 31. Because of this, we must either cancel or postpone all camps scheduled for June.

We will communicate directly with all participants and will provide multiple options for their registration.

At this time, Bentonville Parks and Recreation remains hopeful the ADH will permit all camps to occur in July. We continue to prepare and offer registration of these programs. If the ADH issues another directive preventing this, we will provide additional information at that time. For the updated camp schedule and to register for July camps, please visit us at http://bentonvillear.com/828/Camp-Bentonville

This Sunday Slow Streets Bentonville is happening -

In response to social distancing guidelines being in place and after seeing an increase in the use of NWA trails and parks, the City of Bentonville has worked with BikeNWA to open up select city streets to residents for biking and walking. These "Slow Streets" will be closed to through traffic for a pilot period running on Sundays from 12 pm to 4 pm on May 10th and 17th.

Currently, more than 50 U.S. cities have taken action to provide a combined 500 miles of streets for social distancing outdoors by closing them off completely or to thru vehicle traffic. This includes Bend, Oregon; St. Louis, Missouri; Austin, Texas; Des Moines, Iowa; and Burlington, Vermont to name a few.

Come see the newest piece of public art at NW A Street and Tiger Boulevard. "Universal Inseparability" by artist Ben Pierce is a 12-foot tall welded stainless-steel sculpture. This sculpture pulls influence from nature and architecture. Tying together the use of stainless steel as a medium and a dynamic composition utilizing graceful curves to expand on the use of a circle. The concept is a single large circle that appears to be drooping or bent in a way that at first glance is unrecognizable as a circle.

The City of Bentonville has been named a 2019 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation!

It's Arbor Day and we couldn't be more excited to announce
the City of Bentonville has been named a 2019 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management. This is the 22nd consecutive year the City has received this recognition.

Bentonville achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters.

Trees are assets to a community when properly planted and maintained. They help to improve the visual appeal of a neighborhood, increase property values, reduce home cooling costs, remove air pollutants and provide wildlife habitat, among many other benefits.

For more information on the Tree City USA program, please visit www.arborday.org/programs/treecityUSA/.

The Arbor Day Foundation is a million-member nonprofit conservation and education organization with the mission to inspire people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees. More information is available at arborday.org.

So at Memorial Park there are signs and barriers closing the tennis courts, basketball courts, playgrounds, etc....and there are consistently 35 kids piled on top of each other at the skate park. πŸ€” No signs at the skate park whatsoever. Come on....

Arkansas own Malik Monk (Charlotte Hornets Basketball player) will be hosting a 5-star developmental camp this July! The camp will offer the children a chance to work out with Malik and will focus on basketball development along with life skills and the importance of education. This camp is a special way for Malik to give back to the game while providing a fun opportunity for young boys and girls ages 6-17 to learn the game. The camp includes a ton of fun drills, competitions, and games. visit malikamonk.com for additional info.
Melvin Ford Aquatic Pool was so perfect today. Nice staff & quick check in, very clean dressing rooms & locker. Polite fellow families & swimmers. I was able to lap swim with 3 other adult swimmers 🏊 . Super clean, sparkling water even on a Friday afternoon! Not crowded at all. I have been going to the Bentonville Community Center, but this was so close, so easy, I’m a fan for the rest of the summer.😎 If you haven’t tried it this year, I encourage you to go at least once.
