The Urban garden is truly a community endeavor. This summer Whole Foods and Ashby Lumber volunteered their time, money, and hard work. They were able to get the lot cleared, cleaned up, post holes dug, and are ready for fencing to be installed next month by Red Oak Realty. Terremoto is lending its e...

After a visit from our Samuel Merritt University Occupational Therapist and Student OTs, our team was able to assess and convert this bathroom to make it accessible to our neighbor. These fixes were a fraction of the cost of a bathroom remodel and maintain the beautiful tile work.

We had a Victory!

With the help of loyal Rebuilders, RTEBN is partnering with the City of Richmond, to make a difference for our unhoused neighbors and give them the tools to find their homes. The City of Richmond received two grants totaling $10 million from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) Clean California Local Grant Program.

The program provides funds to local and regional public agencies, transit agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits to clean and beautify public spaces, including your local streets and roads, tribal lands, parks, pathways, and transit centers. Rebuilding Together East Bay-North and Safe Organized Spaces Richmond will engage and uplift unhoused neighbors near the infrastructure projects through training and employment for trash clean-up as well as housing navigation and personal wellness services. Together we won a significant portion of the Caltrans grant to improve the Borman Park neighborhood of Richmond, including addressing a large encampment of unhoused individuals and families.

This weekend we welcomes out neighbors from Bayer Pharmaceuticals and community group Commotion West Berkeley to build a community garden in the heart of Horizon Transitional Villiage. Read this short but beautiful post about guiding principals of building commons in in Berkeley.

Any place in which people assemble, indoors or outdoors, irrespective of the duration of its occupancy, can be considered a potential commons.

On Friday, we had a great team of assemblers at the Horizon Village, who put together tables and cubicle walls. Well done, team! We're chipping away at all the work ahead of us to make this space feel as comfortable as possible.

Thanks, Nixxit Junk Removal, for helping us get materials for the Horizon Transitional Village!

A big thank you to these volunteers from Rebuilding Together East Bay-North for stopping by the Nixxit warehouse today to collect some donations.

We’ve been on the hunt the last several weeks for commercial items that can be repurposed for the organization’s Horizon project - a rehabed warehouse in turned transitional housing. This rehabed warehouse space will provide meals, workshops, housing, and other services to our most vulnerable neighbors.

Here’s a load full of cubicles going off to their new home. 🏡

Check out website (rtebn.org/horizon-transitional-village-program) to learn more about this awesome project.

On Saturday, over 60 volunteers, including Mayor Jesse Arreguín and his team, participated in the latest Beautification Day at the Horizon building. With so many capable hands, we built up the wall for future lockers, redid the stairs to the entrance, and finished painting the walls in the main residential area!

We managed to eliminate a public safety hazard with the controlled demolition of this badly leaning garage! The demo day went well, the volunteers had a blast, and the first aid kit wasn't so much as opened 😉

Many thanks to our wonderful volunteers, and in particular to our House Captain Philip, who made this all possible!

"I love the whole setup. It's going to revolutionize my existence." - Hannah

This three-story handrail, installed in collaboration with RTSF, won't just help Hannah age in place - it will let her neighbors use the stairs more safely, too. Improved accessibility helps us all!

The drop-in status means you can not only come at the last minute, but you can also bring friends, family, co-workers or anyone who is at least 18-years-old and is not yet vaccinated.
You can come by foot, bus, bike or car. However you arrive, we will vaccinate you. You can get a vaccination no matter your city of residence.
The West Berkeley vaccination site is at 2500 Eighth Street, in the Lot E parking lot of Bayer’s campus. Safeway Pharmacy is the medical provider.
Make an appointment online : https://mhealthcheckin.com/covidvaccine...
May 7 and May 14 drop-in hours:
9:30am–12 noon
12:45pm-2pm
If you’re coming to the site, bring or invite others who need a vaccine. The more of us that are vaccinated, the more our entire community is protected from COVID-19.
Sign up to guarantee a spot, or just come when you’re able.

Many thanks to boys team charity, The Oaks League for another great work day! We're so proud to partner with these amazing kids.

The btc Oaks League most definitely follows the mantra “no rest for the weary,” as a group of stepped in to help with a junk haul & carport demo day this past weekend. Jumping in just the day after kicking off a new season of volunteerism shows dedication at its finest.

Happy Passover! Our Volunteer Coordinator AJ Whitman wrote an essay about how RTEBN's values around fostering community can be mapped onto the Jewish story of The Four Children. Read it here: https://rtebn.org/tikkun-olam-byachad-the-four-rebuilders/

This week is the Jewish holiday of Passover. The beginning of this holiday is celebrated with a Passover Seder, a ritual meal centered around retelling the story of the Jews’ exodus from Egypt. Included in the seder are several discussion prompts related to the story and our traditions, formed aro...

Happy Purim! Check out this essay by our Volunteer Coordinator, AJ Whitman, on how RTEBN's mission and philosophy aligns with Jewish values.

Today at sundown starts the Jewish holiday of Purim, when we celebrate the story of Esther and how she saved the Jews from an attempt at annihilation in ancient Persia. The most well-known aspects of Purim are the revelry, complete with special cookies, noisemakers, and silly costumes. But near the....

RTBEN builds things to last! We built this ramp for the current homeowner’s mother 20 years ago, back when we were called Christmas in April. As you can see, it’s still in use today! We are currently working on our second generation of repairs as we start our tasks of resolving the plumbing and fence issues next week.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Who We Are

We are a non-profit organization which provides free safety and accessibility renovations and critical repairs for low-income senior and disabled homeowners, including veterans.

Neighbors helping neighbors, like the barn-raising of old, is the American spirit in action. Rebuilding Together (formerly Christmas in April) was born of that spirit as people came together to help low-income neighbors fix their houses—first in Texas, then in Washington D.C. and then California and beyond.

Rebuilding Together believes in a safe and healthy home for every person. This means that we believe disabled and aging homeowners should be able to remain in their homes for as long as possible.
