Today a few members from the Leyden and Bernardston Fire Departments helped Star Tree Prescribed Fire with a prescribed burn in Leyden. Members got to learn fire behavior, how different types of fuel and weather changed fire conditions and some changes that needed to be done with equipment.

- At 19:24 yesterday evening we were dispatched automatic mutual-aid to a Greenfield Road residence in Leyden for a smell of gas in the home. Car 1, Engine 2, Engine 3 & Rescue 1 along with Leyden Tanker 1 & Bernardston Police Department, responded. While the residents safely waited outside, a thorough investigation determined the home was out of gas and there was no further threat. The homeowners gas supplier was notified. All units were clear and returned in service.

ALERT: Tomorrow morning (4/17) and Friday (4/18) MassWildlife will be conducting a controlled burn in the Leyden Wildlife Management area. The area is to the east of the Leyden Glen Reservoir. If you are driving on Greenfield Road and see smoke to the east, that's what it is. Parking areas around the WMA may be busy with vehicles.
