BETHLEHEM AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT SCHOOL BUS INCIDENT

Initial Social Media Reports of a bomb on the bus – UNFOUNDED

On October 23, 2026 around 3:24pm, Officers from the Bethlehem Township Police Department were dispatched to Freedom High School for an explosion on a school bus, possibly caused by an incendiary device. Officers were informed that the bus was evacuated and that no injuries were reported. Bethlehem Township Police, Bethlehem Township Volunteer Fire Company, Nancy Run Fire Company, and the City of Bethlehem Police Department all responded. Investigating Officers quickly learned that a student on the bus intentionally manipulated a personal electronic device which caused the device to overheat and fail. As a result, the student suffered an apparent minor burn injury and the bus seat was damaged.

Bethlehem Area School District Transportation Department quickly arranged for another bus to complete the affected East Hills Middle School end-of-day bus run. It is likely that about twenty students were delayed in arriving home.

The incident remains under police investigation.

Update - our hearts goes out to the Bethlehem Township family that adopted “Blue” from us this afternoon. We hope he found his fur-ever home. Thank you!

——-

This sweet boy is looking for a family to call his own. He has been at our headquarters since Saturday, October 17 when he was found on Vermont Drive. Although he is friendly, house-broken, and fun to play with, we all know a police department is no place for a dog to call home. If you have it in your heart to be able to foster or adopt him, please contact our police supervisor through non-emergency dispatch at 610.759.2200.

Bethlehem Township Police Department stands with our brothers and sisters of the Philadelphia Police Department as we mourn Police Officer Shane Seiber, who was shot and killed in the line of duty early Saturday morning, October 10, 2026.

Officer Seiber and his partner were responding to a report of an armed man in West Philadelphia when the suspect opened fire ambushing the two officers. Officer Seiber’s partner was seriously wounded and remains hospitalized. We honor their courage, dedication, and selfless service to the people of Philadelphia.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Officer Seiber’s wife, his two young children, his wounded partner, and the entire Philadelphia Police Department during this difficult time. Officer Seiber was 40 years old and served with the Philadelphia Police Department for 10 years. May his family find strength, comfort, and peace in the love and support of the community.
