FYI for historical interest:

Dr. Richard Allen Williams signing copies of his book, Blacks in Medicine, while under security protection during his DEI presentation at the University of South Florida Medical School in 2023. Dr. Williams had been scrutinized by the Governor and the Surgeon General of Florida and had been warned against delivering the “woke” lecture, but he persisted despite the intimidation. His book was later banned in Florida but was accepted into the historical archives of the Smithsonian Institution, along with his previous book, the iconic Textbook of Black-Related Diseases.

Dr. Williams is advancing his pro-DEIB efforts by establishing the National Consortium for Health Equity and Community Education (NACHE) which will premiere in December 2026 in LA under the aegis of MHI, combined with the annual Imhotep Awards. Interested individuals, institutions, corporations, foundations, and organizations are encouraged to join this effort by contacting Dr. Williams by email at [email protected]. Thank you to everyone who joined the Minority Health Institute for the 8th Annual Minority Health Summit on Saturday, June 20. Approximately 85 participants came together for a powerful day of health-equity learning, community conversation, expert insight, and partner engagement. Together, we are advancing health equity and building stronger communities.

Our 8th Annual Minority Health Summit was strengthened by sponsor and partner engagement from Dr. Releford, BridgeBio, L.A. Care Health Plan, Regeneron, and the American Medical Association. A historic moment in cardiology.

The Minority Health Institute proudly celebrates Dr. Richard Allen Williams, Founder of the Association of Black Cardiologists and President of the Minority Health Institute, on being honored by the American College of Cardiology with the naming of a conference room in his honor at the iconic Heart House in Washington, DC.

This extraordinary recognition acknowledges Dr. Williams' decades of visionary leadership, groundbreaking contributions to cardiovascular medicine, and unwavering commitment to advancing health equity. He is the first Black cardiologist to receive this distinguished honor.

The July 11, 2026, dedication ceremony was made possible through the generous support of Sigma Pi Phi Boule’ and Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceuticals. As part of the celebration, each attendee received a copy of Dr. Williams' landmark book, Blacks in Medicine.

Cardiovascular Associates of America (CVAUSA) has appointed internationally acclaimed cardiologist and healthcare equity advocate Dr. Richard Allen Williams as ESG Advisor and Ambassador. In addition, Dr. Williams was honored as the inaugural recipient of the “Luminaries in Cardiology” Award—recognizing his extraordinary contributions to cardiology and his lifelong commitment to advancing equitable healthcare.

A trailblazer in American medicine, Dr. Williams is the founder of the Association of Black Cardiologists and former President of the National Medical Association.
