On Saturday, May 30, 2026, guests, city staff and officials, and friends from the dog park attended a special ribbon cutting ceremony at Rotary Park to celebrate the grand opening of Girl Scout Troop 1049βs Pet Paws Pantry!
Troop 1049 includes troop members Bella, Jasmine, Sarrena, and Zoe. The event was the culmination of a year-long project for the troop to achieve their Silver Award. Parent volunteer, Annie Rosario, shared that this project must be mission-driven and designed to have a long lasting impact, with a commitment of 50 hours of community service. In total this year, the troop has completed 65-70 hours of community service for this project and other activities to support animals and raise funds to benefit local animal shelters and the Biddeford Dog Park. The troop built the pantry in collaboration with the BRCOT Carpentry Program and collected donated dog toys to use at the dog park, along with leashes and pet care items to stock the pantry.
In attendance were family and friends honoring the troop, with speeches given by Troop parent Annie Rosario, Mayor Liam LaFountain, Recreation Deputy Director Erika Dube, and Kelsey Ruzzi, Volunteer Chair for the Biddeford Dog Park. Honored pet guests Bodhi, Chowder, Annie, Koda, Leroy, and Maddie enjoyed the toys and homemade dog treats following the ribbon cutting.
