Monday Morning, Big Sandy

We hope this finds you all managing ok.

We appreciate your patience and we are still busy restoring services to our community. There is not much new to report, but here are today’s updates:

1. City Hall has temporarily been relocated to the community center at 207 E Gilmer. We can temporarily be reached at 903.714.0917.

2. Water/ wastewater: the generator is working and our water supply is adequate. We would appreciate it if everyone would continue continue to conserve their use until further notice.

Remember we are still under a boil water notice for all water used for drinking, cooking, or food preparation until further notice.

3. Community center at 207 E Gilmer Street: is open as a cooling center until 7 p.m. tonight. You can also charge your phones and get a cold drink. We have a limited amount of free sandwiches and bottled water available, too.

4. Electricity: we see some tree removal and SWEPCO trucks in town, but It looks like it will be days before our electricity will be restored. You should prepare for the worst case scenario and pray and hope for the best.

Hopefully the end is in sight. We are so thankful for the resilience and kindness from so many.

We will post any other updates as soon as we have them.

Morning, Big Sandy

Thank you for your patience once again as we struggle to restore services to our community. Here are a few updates:

1. Water/ wastewater: our installed generator is working. The demand on the system continues to exceed our supply so we once again are asking everyone to conserve their use in the hope that the water tanks can refill.

Remember we are still under a boil water notice for all water used for drinking, cooking, or food preparation until further notice.

2. Community center at 207 W Gilmer Street: is open as a cooling center until 7 p.m. tonight. You can also charge your phones and get a cold drink.
We have a limited amount of free ham and turkey sandwiches and bottled water available, too.

3. Electricity: we see some tree removal and SWEPCO trucks in town, but It looks like it will be days before our electricity will be restored. You should prepare for the worst case scenario and pray and hope for the best.

We’re all hot, tired and uncomfortable, but we can survive this. We are very thankful for the many who are helping each other and the city, including volunteers, our mayor and city council, and our city employees.

There is so much to be thankful for as we pause to celebrate Thanksgiving this year. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

City offices will be closed on Thanksgiving day and the Friday after so our employees and officials can celebrate with their families.

Happy Independence Day! Happy 245th Birthday America!

Join us in Big Sandy for our waffle breakfast (served from 7 to 3 at the Big Sandy Civic Center), our glow in the dark parade (starting at 8:30 pm on the North end of Wildcat Drive) and our fireworks show (starting at dark, around 9:30 at the City Park).

We wish all of our Big Sandy family a very Merry Christmas and holiday season. We know this past year has been challenging and we hope that the coming year brings more certain times for all of us.

City Offices will be closed December 24 and December 25 in observance of the Christmas holiday.

Trash Pickup will be on its regular schedule, Thursday December 24 and Monday, December 28.

In our effort to be vigilant and do our part in preventing the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the lobby at City Hall will be temporarily closed starting Monday, March 23, 2020 at noon.

We are still open for business, just maintaining some social distance and are available by telephone at 903.636.4343. We're only one call away!
