Big Spring Russ McEwen Aquatic Center opens May 30
Russ McEwen Center utilizing Splash Cash, Improvements Underway
(BIG SPRING, TEXAS)- The City of Big Spring’s Russ McEwen Aquatic Center will open Saturday, May 30 for the season. The opening day hours are from 1-6 p.m. Located at 911 Golf Course Road, inside the Comanche Trail Park, the facility features a pool, lazy river, multiple slides and a splash pad. The two largest slides, however, are in the process of having new motors installed. They should be in use again by next week.
The center charges a $5 entry fee for guests 3 years of age and older and is open from noon to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays through Saturdays and 1-8 p.m. on Sundays. Punch cards are also available, with 12 entries available for the discounted price of $50. The center is closed for cleaning and private rentals on Mondays.
“We are using Splash Cash this year, and people can load a card with an amount of their choice upon entry,” said Terri Telchik, Community Service’s Facilities Manager for the City of Big Spring. “Cash will only be accepted at the front entry; Splash Cash cards will need to be used to purchase concessions.”
The Aquatic Center did have extensive rain, wind and hail damage from storms over the past year, and new sunshades and picnic tables are among the improvements that visitors will see at the center this season.
Pavilions at the Aquatic Center are available for private rental at $25 per hour with a 2-hour minimum. To rent, a $25 deposit must be paid in person at the Big Spring Visitor Center, located at 115 E. 3rd Street, which is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m., and is closed for lunch from noon to 1 p.m.
Aug. 1 will be the last day of the season, with hours from 1-6 p.m. The center will be closed July 3-4.
