Thank you to WBRC FOX6 News's Good Day Alabama for having our R**e Response staff member Jess and Mountain Brook's Mayor Stewart Welch on the show to talk about teen dating violence prevention and what resources are available for survivors.

Dating violence is incredibly common, and often includes sexual assault.. Jess leads our Bar Outreach program, made possible by the Megan Montgomery Domestic Violence Prevention Fund and our partners at Cahaba Brewing Company, where we provide trainings to help front of house staff in the hospitality industry identify signs of Drug Facilitated Sexual Assault and learn skills to safely intervene.

We are always grateful for the opportunity to build awareness and provide resources to our community to make it safer and stronger.

We can't believe how much has changed in a few short years. In 2017, our Recovery Resource Center program was just an idea, dreamed up by a team of recovery experts in our community. With a lot of hard work, research and teamwork, the idea became a reality.

As of today, the program has already grown to include a second location in downtown Jasper to serve Walker County residents. We have now helped thousands of individuals find their way to a successful recovery and better health. By partnering with the incredible folks at Jefferson County Department of Health, we have been able to train hundreds and hundreds to reverse opioid overdose with regular naloxone trainings throughout the community.

We are so grateful to all of our community partners who know that recovery is possible for everyone and helped launch this program to provide these much needed services.

We can't wait to see what the next five years holds for this program.

It's really happening...a multidisciplinary approach to recovery. The Recovery Resource Center is a collaboration between the Jefferson County Department of Health, Crisis Center, Inc., Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, Northwest Alabama Treatment Center, Cooper Green Mercy Hospital, Fellowship House Birmingham, UAB Substance Abuse Programs, The Addiction and Recovery Program at UAB, UAB Department of Emergency Medicine to address the opioid epidemic in our community. More details and information coming soon...

Our Senior Talk Line Coordinator and one of our incredible volunteers are at the Jefferson County Office of Senior Services' "Fall into Wellness Senior Expo" today to share Crisis Center resources.

The Senior Talk Line is an important program for su***de prevention, as seniors face difficult mental health symptoms such as severe and/or chronic anxiety and depression due to increased isolation and loneliness associated with aging.

Our volunteers provide friendship, reassurance and phone companionship to program recipients with a few simple phone calls a week.

Just knowing someone cares about you can dramatically improve mental health outcomes, and we see this time and again from seniors who are a part of our program. Additionally, we can identify signs of other issues, such as a lack of access to healthcare, food, or if someone is experiencing abuse or neglect.

If you think you or someone you know would benefit from this program, call us at 205-328-8255 for more information.

Su***de is the second leading cause of death in people aged 24 and younger. The CDC has reported a dramatic increase in su***de rates in the last decade, with social media increasingly being a contributing factor.

These are great tips for any parent who needs guidance regarding talking with your child about su***de and social media.

Also, know that you and your child have the support of our UTalk program, 365 days a year between the hours of 3 PM and 10 PM.

Text or call 205-328-5465 to speak with a UTalk counselor.

Is there a young person in your life? We have a tipsheet available to help inform your talk about your children's digital experiences and how social media impacts their lives. Want to learn more? Download our Su***de and Social Media: A tipsheet for parents and providers: http://ow.ly/RLeb50Kz4oC
