Good morning, please, I want to be associated with this great institution. I am an historian by profession.
I moved to Alabama seven years ago. I have been a licensed massage therapist in GA for 23 years. I fought very hard against the occupational licensing of massage therapists in Georgia and lost. I believe that licensing of massage therapists is merely a way to create cottage industries for National Cerification exams and continuing education. I have been a massage therapist since 1995. I was not required to take the National certification exam and was grandfathered in. Because Alabama does not offer reciprocity from another State, I have needed to travel 200 miles round trip to work in GA. It's a very long story. I became aware this past weekend that there is currently some consideration of sunsetting the Massage Therapy Licensing Board in Alabama. I am in full support of this. I have reached out numerous times to Rep. Bob Fincher regarding my personal dilemma and will hopefully be speaking with him to day. If I may take a little bit of your time to explain why the licensing of massage therapists isn't necessary, I would appreciate your time. Before I begin let me preface my remarks with this, most massage therapists are not Republicans and do not hold Republican values or philosophies. I am a rare bird when it comes to massage therapy but I am not alone by any means. The argument for the licensing of massage therapists is that the license elevates our profession and separates us from prostitution. In my 23 years, I have never once had a client ask if I was licensed. I have had clients ask about my educational background however. Most MT'S are offended that they receive phone calls inquiring about "questionable" services. I've never understood why they are offended, I have received those phone calls and I simply handle them accordingly. It's very easy to explain to them, I do not provide those types of services and I do so professionally. MT'S that support licensing argue that licensing fights against prostitution. Thank you Alabama Policy Institute. Sunset the Alabama Massage Therapy Board, please.
yeah they are sooo in danger, those 2nd Amendment rights. They are so in danger that any nutjob with a personal arsenal from WalMart can wipe us out by the dozens!
Jane Doe, Jane Fonda, and GI Jane have all come out with allegations against Alabama Senate race contestant Doug Jones. His ex-wife has also said the reason for their divorce was his infidelity. Jones in a statement vehemently admitted to these allegations. He states” with Roy Moore’s name calling I just had to take back the narrative because no one believes I have changed my stripes”. Additionally Jones reiterated he is his own man except when Pelosi, McConnell, Frank, Dodd, Schumer, or Shelby requests he make a vote against Alabama.
