HerStory HerWay: A Community Conversation
Join Southern AIDS Coalition on January 24, for a conversation with young Cisgender women of color leading the fight to end the HIV epidemic in the Deep South. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, late-stage HIV is still one of the top 10 causes of death in women between the ages of 20-44 years old. This community discussion will help amplify the voices of young women of color who live in the intersection of residing in the Deep South while simultaneously working to help end the HIV epidemic.
We asked Southern women in our Gilead @beourcompass network to share some words for National Women & Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. Watch, share, and continue to support and uplift women and girls in HIV.

In commemoration of Southern HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (SHAAD), Let’s Stop HIV Together will host a roundtable discussion featuring transgender leaders living in the south. This dialogue seeks to increase transgender voices in the south on the topics of HIV and to bring awareness to stigma, mental health, and sustainability efforts that affect the transgender community. The outline below reflects the proposed topics and speakers for this event based on discussions held with SAC, CDC/DHAP National Partnerships Team, and Westat.
Sustaining Emerging Southern Leadership
Join leaders of emerging organizations and funders for a conversation on how we support and sustain community-led efforts to end the HIV epidemic in the south.

Join the Director of the White House Office of National AIDS Policy, Harold Phillips, and SAC’s Executive Director, Dafina Ward, for a conversation kicking off Southern HIV/AIDS Awareness Day! How do we ensure that the southern HIV epidemic remains a federal priority? What shifts are needed to address the disproportionate impact of HIV in the South? What long-term impact could COVID-19 have on the accessibility of HIV services—and the HIV workforce? They’ll discuss that and more.
