Seven races in. Three to go. The World Trail Majors Series title, with 12,000€ on the line for the win, is still very much up for grabs. 🌍
On the women’s side, Valérie Arsenault claimed the overall lead after her victory at Québec Mega Trail , but Ying Li sits level on points at 2810, and Robyn Cassidy is just 140 points back in third. What makes this even more interesting is that Arsenault and Li both built their points totals from a race win and a 4th place finish.
That means Jennifer Lichter, Sarah Webster, and Katharina Hartmuth, all who are sitting on 1500 points from a single race win, could leapfrog the entire podium with another victory or even a strong podium finish at one of the three remaining races.
The men’s standings are equally as wide open. Ferdinand Airault leads with 2360 points, but those points came from an 8th and a 6th place finish across the first two races of the season. This means that coming into the final 3 races the door is still wide open.
Men’s 8th through 14th on the leaderboard are all locked at 1500 points from a single race win, and the names in that group are anything but small. Some of the strongest trail and ultra runners in the world, such as Guidu Qin, Jonathan Albon, Chris Myers, and Hans Troyer, are all sitting right there, one strong race away from the top of the standings.
And then there’s Kamil Lesniák. Fresh off his victory at Québec Mega Trail , he sits 14th with 1500 points. With rumors swirling about a potential appearance at Vietnam Mountain Marathon , could the QMT champion be eyeing another WTM start line?
That’s the beauty of the WTM scoring system. The leaderboard today is just a snapshot, not a final verdict.
