This past Sunday, I had the pleasure of traveling to Lexington and Smithville for two big events. The Lafayette County Courthouse was open to the public for tours, allowing visitors to see and hear about the remodeling project that had just finished. From what I was told, it sounds like the courthouse, reportedly the oldest original and still active courthouse west of the Mississippi, was about to cave in, but thankfully that will no longer happen. We also enjoyed delicious apple pie and ice cream. I appreciate everyone involved in all the work.
Then it was on to Smithville, where the Northland Pachyderm Club was having a Flag Day and 'Meet Your Elected Official' event at Smithville Lake. All Republican elected officials and candidates were invited to attend, mingle, and address the crowd. Although I didn't arrive in time for the speeches due to the pit stop in Lexington, it was still great to visit with everyone when I did arrive. Sunday was a beautiful day to be outside and celebrate our nation's flag.
