Governor’s Flag Order in Memory and Respect of Dolly Parton

In accordance with the authority vested in me as Governor, I hereby order that the flags of the United States of America and the Commonwealth of Virginia be flown at half-staff on all state and local buildings and grounds in the Commonwealth of Virginia in memory and respect of Dolly Parton.

We honor Dolly Parton not only for her extraordinary contributions to music and culture, but also for her enduring commitment to children throughout the Commonwealth. Through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, she has helped foster a lifelong love of reading among our youngest Virginians. Her generosity has expanded opportunity for countless children and strengthened communities across the Commonwealth. Our prayers are with her family during this difficult time.

I hereby order that the flags shall be lowered at 6:00pm ET this evening, August 25, and remain at half-staff until sunset on Tuesday, September 1.

Ordered on this 25ᵗʰ day of August 2026.

PRECAUTIONARY BOIL NOTICE

Boil Your Tap Water

Due to a Water Main Break on Main Street in the Bland Area of Bland County

Notice to all Water Customers for 332 Main Street North to 138 Main Street including High Chaparral, Stonewood Ln, and 5th Street of Bland County.

The Bland County Service Authority in conjunction with the Virginia Department of Health requirements are advising residents to use boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking and cooking purposes as a safety precaution. The advisory area is for the above-mentioned residents of the Bland Community only.

Do not Drink Tap Water without Boiling it first
Failure to follow this advisory could result in stomach or intestinal illness

As a precaution, affected customers should boil their water before consumption until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms that may be present in the water, Customers are asked to bring water to a boil for a minimum of one minute, then cool before use.

Also recommended:

Throw away ice cubes and beverages made with tap water

Keep boiled water in the refrigerator for drinking

Provide pets with boiled water after cooling

Do not use home filtering devices in place of boiling or using bottled water. Most home water filters will not provide adequate protection from microorganisms

Use only boiled water to treat minor injuries

Water Quality Samples will be collected for analysis. Customers will be notified in the same manner once the analysis is completed and the advisory can be lifted.
