Board of Regents candidate Michael Schostak said he "welcomed" Raver in an X post Tuesday afternoon, adding that she was taking on the responsibility at a "crucial" point for the university.

"The next president will need to move quickly to build a strong executive team, restore integrity, accountability, and trust to our athletic department, and navigate the University’s Title VI settlement with the federal government," wrote Schostak, one of two Republicans running for two board seats currently held by Democrats. "I look forward to working with Dr. Raver as a Regent. But I will hold the administration accountable for delivering the changes Michigan families expect from their university."

The Board of Regents is poised to approve C. Cybele Raver as the University of Michigan's 17th president.

I welcome Dr. C. Cybele Raver as the University of Michigan’s next president. In my conversations with members of the search committee, I consistently heard Raver described as a transformational leader, and her academic, research, and administrative record is certainly impressive.

She takes on this responsibility at a critical time for the University of Michigan. The next president will need to move quickly to build a strong executive team, restore integrity, accountability, and trust to our athletic department, and navigate the University’s Title VI settlement with the federal government.

I look forward to working with Dr. Raver as a Regent. But I will hold the administration accountable for delivering the changes Michigan families expect from their university.

My priorities remain clear: bringing greater fiscal discipline to the university so we can reduce the cost of attendance for students, making sure more Michigan students have access to a world-class education, and ensuring that every member of the university community can safely express their beliefs without fear of intimidation or retaliation.

Dr. Raver has the opportunity to lead the University of Michigan at an important moment. I look forward to working with her to make more affordable, accountable, and welcoming to all.

The University of Michigan Board of Regents announced Dr. C. Cybele Raver as its choice to become the university’s 17th president. The Board will hold a special meeting on Sept. 1 to take a formal vote. Pending approval, Dr. Raver’s appointment will take effect Dec. 1. Dr. Raver, currently the provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at Vanderbilt University, is a nationally recognized leader in higher education. myumi.ch/xjwJm

If students are not able to handle the rigors of college coursework, then how did they get admitted in the first place? I am not in favor of "hiding" grades of U-M students.

How do you feel about it?

A University of Michigan college is planning to hide first semester grades for freshmen, sparking debate over what's best for students' mental health.

I’m disappointed in the lack of transparency shown by the university in only posting very high-level observations. For $12 million we should have a comprehensive report that details how the investigation was conducted. When I am a Regent, I will oppose wasteful taxpayer-funded boondoggles like this that obfuscate information that the public has a right to know.

It was an honor to attend last night’s 9th Annual Salute Our Warriors at the Packard Proving Grounds as we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary and recognize the men and women who have served our nation.

I had the privilege of meeting veterans, active-duty service members, military families, and an incredible original Rosie the Riveter whose generation helped shape the America we know today.

Most importantly, this event supports outstanding organizations that care for our veterans and their families, including the Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund, Military Families United, and Fallen Patriots.

Thank you to the Kassab family, A Brighter Michigan, and everyone who made this special evening possible, and to every veteran who has answered the call to serve. Your sacrifice and commitment to our country will never be forgotten.

Happy 250th America!
