I welcome Dr. C. Cybele Raver as the University of Michigan’s next president. In my conversations with members of the search committee, I consistently heard Raver described as a transformational leader, and her academic, research, and administrative record is certainly impressive.
She takes on this responsibility at a critical time for the University of Michigan. The next president will need to move quickly to build a strong executive team, restore integrity, accountability, and trust to our athletic department, and navigate the University’s Title VI settlement with the federal government.
I look forward to working with Dr. Raver as a Regent. But I will hold the administration accountable for delivering the changes Michigan families expect from their university.
My priorities remain clear: bringing greater fiscal discipline to the university so we can reduce the cost of attendance for students, making sure more Michigan students have access to a world-class education, and ensuring that every member of the university community can safely express their beliefs without fear of intimidation or retaliation.
Dr. Raver has the opportunity to lead the University of Michigan at an important moment. I look forward to working with her to make more affordable, accountable, and welcoming to all.
The University of Michigan Board of Regents announced Dr. C. Cybele Raver as its choice to become the university’s 17th president. The Board will hold a special meeting on Sept. 1 to take a formal vote. Pending approval, Dr. Raver’s appointment will take effect Dec. 1. Dr. Raver, currently the provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at Vanderbilt University, is a nationally recognized leader in higher education. myumi.ch/xjwJm
