IMPORTANT! The next scheduled D13 Board of Education meeting is this Monday, October 23rd at 7 pm. The agenda for this meeting is an extensive one and I encourage parents to participate (in-person or virtually) as the board will be discussing many crucial topics including:

- Improvement projects for all three schools for Reading, Math and SEL based on recent MAP and IAR data

- Tax levy for 2023

- District renovations and expansion to accommodate all-day Kindergarten requirements that could include:
· New Grade Center structure for Erickson and DuJardin
· Moving 5th grade to Westfield
· New Early Childhood Education building

- Discussion on district consolidation proposal for all Lake Park HS feeder districts

Important subject that could become a part of our public schools curriculum (albeit optional for now).

Legislation to create a comprehensive drug education curriculum for the state's public schools is headed to Gov. J.B. Pritzker's desk. Louie's Law is named after a suburban man who died from a he**in overdose in 2012.

Not everyone is aware of the Invest In Kids scholarship program that's been around for 5 years now. It is set to expire if the legislature doesn't act on it. There are strong feelings on both sides of the argument whether it should be kept as-is, modified or eliminated entirely. What is your take?

Families who participate say it’s been essential for their children, while others say it hurts the public schools that most students attend.

I have to say I'm surprised to see it requires a bill to be signed into law... multiplication tables and cursive writing are pretty basic concepts that everyone should know.

“I see these really as fundamental skills that we are bringing to our students,” said Frank Edelblut, Commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Education.

This could be a very big change for all school districts in Illinois if it becomes a law. The bill as it stands, does not provide much details about funding this additional major expense for every district but it will be something very important to address very soon. What is your opinion of the full-day kindergarten requirement?

Please register all NEW and RETURNING students for 2023/24 school year as soon as possible starting April 24th. This allows the district to have a full picture of student enrollment for the upcoming year. Please keep in mind you WILL NO LONGER USE POWERSCHOOL portal to pay registration fees. My School Bucks (MSB) will replace it this year.
