Play Ball!
Tomorrow (Saturday, May 9) is a day many have been waiting for and I and others in Sullivan County government are EXCITED is here: First Day of Play at the new Blountville Athletic Park (on the grounds of the former Blountville Elementary/Blountville Middle School Complex.
Please join us, for:
* First play on two new pickleball courts (players by drawing and starting at 10 a.m.)
* First pickleball tournament on those courts - in partnership and with much appreciated guidance from Pickleball USA local expert on the sport, Anna Walters (1 p.m. start time, round-robin doubles matches).
* First Day Of Play on the park's two new state-of-the-art youth baseball fields. (9 a.m. to 9 p.m. - come early and stay late to see the lights shine bright for the first time as community youth leagues from Bloomingdale and Sullivan Gardens christen the new turf.)
* Food Trucks
* Concession stand standards
* Official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony -- 12:30 p.m. (look for the big tent near the concessions stand)
* At 7 p.m., weather permitting, an outdoor showing of the 1976 classic comedy "The Bad News Bears." (football field).
Things to remember: The main address for the park is 155 School Avenue, Blountville, TN, 37617 -- that's the FRONT of the former elementary school. PARKING will be limited at the front of the property. BEST PARKING OPTION will be to enter the complex from its rear/side entrance off Blountville Boulevard near the Sullivan County Public Library - Tennessee.
