Great day at the Capitol with our international students! These students are from all over the world and staying in the KC Region. My wife and I have the honor of bringing them to the Capitol each year!

A big thank you to Speaker Jon Patterson, Representative Ron Fowler, Senator Mike Cierpiot, and so many others who took the time to make today meaningful and memorable.

In addition to touring the Capitol, we visited the Supreme Court and the Governor’s Mansion—an incredible experience to share how our state government works with students from around the world.

Days like this are a great reminder of the importance of civic engagement and the value of connecting people to the process. Our students truly enjoyed the day!

Great Legislative Affairs Breakfast last Friday. Our guest speaker was Joel Arrington, Airport Manager for the Kansas City - Lee's Summit Regional Airport who shared updates on the airport’s recent rebranding, its capabilities, and how it operates as a municipal airport serving the region. He also discussed plans for continued growth, including longer runways and additional amenities that will expand the airport’s capacity and service offerings.

Very informative presentation and a great reminder of how important strong infrastructure and transportation assets are to our local economy.

There’s something powerful about walking the halls of the Capitol in Jefferson City — but this trip meant even more because my son, Rylan, was right there with me.
It was an especially unique day because both the Blue Springs Chamber and the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association — two organizations I’m proud to serve on the board of — were at the Capitol advocating for business and community priorities.

I had the privilege of traveling with an outstanding group of leaders: Lara Vermillion of the Blue Springs Chamber; Joe Perry; CDO Dan Nelson; Corey Martin, Chief of Staff for KC Cannabis; Greg Hunsucker, owner of V’s Restaurant; Ashish Patel, owner of Hampton Inn; Mike, President of the Kansas City Restaurant Association; Buddy Lahl, President of the Missouri Restaurant Association; and Rick Wolverton, owner of Advanced Interiors.

Together, we met with legislators including Senator Mike Cierpiot, Representative Ron Fowler , Speaker of the House Jon Patterson, Education Secretary Karla Eslinger, and others who generously took time to engage in meaningful dialogue. We also had the opportunity to visit with Kara Corches , President of the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and discuss statewide priorities impacting business and economic growth.

We talked through legislative issues affecting small businesses, workforce development, education, economic development, and the long-term strength of our communities. These aren’t just policy conversations — they shape opportunity, jobs, and the future of Missouri.

The Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association reception at The Mill Bottom was another highlight — a great evening of connection and continued collaboration between industry leaders and lawmakers.

But for me, the most meaningful part wasn’t just the meetings or the reception.

It was watching Rylan sit in those rooms. Listening. Learning. Seeing firsthand what it means to advocate, to build relationships, and to show up for your community. Sharing my passion for business and civic engagement with him is something I’ll never take for granted.

Grateful for leaders willing to engage in real conversations. Grateful for the opportunity to have a voice. And especially grateful for the next generation who’s watching and learning.

It’s easy to point out what’s broken. It’s harder — and far more valuable — to roll up your sleeves and build anyway.

The world isn’t always going to align with our preferences, timelines, or expectations. Leadership is choosing to move forward regardless. Adjusting. Problem-solving. Executing.

In business, in community work, in life — complaining is noise. Strategy is action.

Let’s get to work.

I attended the Blue Springs State of the City address today, delivered by Mayor Chris Lievsay, and left encouraged by both the data and the direction. What stood out most was how much of the progress connects directly back to the City Strategic Plan — a coordinated roadmap that’s clearly being implemented with focus and accountability.

Here are a few key takeaways...

Community & Economic Development:
The city continues advancing long-term priorities — including the new south-side park at 12th & Wyatt (anticipated 2028). Downtown remains a key focus with the Central Park concept, Main Street redevelopment, and future planning for the church property at 15th & Main. These efforts are designed to strengthen the tax base, support small business growth, and increase overall vibrancy.

Roads & Infrastructure:
• 52 miles repaved across 2024–2025
• 110 miles scheduled for 2026
That equates to roughly 40% of all city-maintained roads being addressed within a short timeframe — a significant infrastructure commitment.
• 9,491 potholes filled last year
• Priority corridors for 2026: 15th, 19th, RD Mize, Mock, South Outer Road, Woods Chapel
• Turn lane addition at Adams Dairy & Duncan
• 2 miles of sidewalk gap completed

Public Safety:
• 23 officers added over the past two years
• Department now staffed at 109 officers
• New K9, drone program, and 70 Flock cameras

Community Support:
The “Neighbors in Need” task force is addressing both physical and mental health needs — reinforcing that a strong city supports its residents in multiple ways.

Upcoming Election:
April 7 — revenue bond proposal for the Sni-A-Bar wastewater treatment facility and council seats in all three districts.

I want to express my appreciation to Mayor Lievsay, our elected officials, and city staff. The progress outlined today reflects a tremendous amount of planning, coordination, and consistent follow-through. Much of their work happens behind the scenes, but it’s clear it’s making a meaningful difference in keeping Blue Springs a strong, growing, and well-managed community.

This morning, our Legislative Affairs Group for Eastern Jackson County had the opportunity to host Jackson County Executive Phil LeVota.

As chairman of the Legislative Affairs Group, it’s always encouraging to see strong engagement between our business community and public leadership. We appreciated hearing Executive LaVota’s perspective and vision for Jackson County, covering everything from taxes and stadium discussions to infrastructure and the many priorities in between. He was very open to questions and led an extended Q&A that made for a thoughtful and productive conversation.

A sincere thank you to the Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce for organizing and for continuing to create space for meaningful dialogue.

Conversations like these truly help move our region forward.

Today at the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City with the ABC Heart of America Chapter, advocating on behalf of the construction trades and the men and women who keep our communities building, growing, and moving forward.

It was a productive day of conversations centered on workforce development, the skilled trades, and policies that support a strong construction industry and a healthy economy.

Thank you to the legislators who took the time to meet, listen, and engage in thoughtful discussion. I appreciate their willingness to hear directly from those working in and supporting the trades every day.

Advocating for the construction industry means advocating for opportunity, skilled careers, and the future of our communities—and I’m grateful to be part of that work.

This morning, I had the opportunity to moderate our legislative breakfast, guiding a focused and constructive discussion on issues important to our community.

Thank you to Speaker Jon Patterson, Representative Carolyn Caton, Representative Ron Fowler, and Senator Mike Cierpiot for their willingness to engage, listen, and provide insight during today’s conversation.

A very special thank you to Julius Oswald, who has moderated these breakfasts for more than 45 years. Having been mentored by Julius over the past three years, it is both a privilege and an honor to help continue the legacy of thoughtful dialogue he has built.

Topics discussed included efforts to eliminate the state income tax, legislation impacting businesses, concerns surrounding frivolous lawsuits related to website ADA requirements, and open enrollment with tax dollars following students.

Meaningful progress begins with informed, respectful dialogue. I’m grateful to play a role in bringing leaders and the community together to move these conversations forward.

Thank you to the Blue Springs Chamber for hosting and organizing this each month! If you have questions for our legislators that you would like asked during this breakfast, please feel free to reach out to our Chamber and your questions could be selected!!

Hello friends — I’m Roy Boyd, and I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and the purpose of this page. I am not running for an office, but I am very involved in many different capacities in our community.

Service has been a constant theme throughout my life. From serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1999–2003, to working for more than two decades alongside community leaders, first responders, educators, business owners, and residents throughout Eastern Jackson County and beyond, I’ve always believed strong communities are built through service, collaboration, and showing up.

Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to serve in civic, public safety, economic development, and legislative advocacy roles. I serve on legislative advocacy committees within several organizations and moderate our area legislative breakfasts during session. I’m also involved with the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association, AIA Kansas City, ABC Heart of America Chapter, BOMA Kansas City, and the International Facility Management Association IFMA Kansas City.

Through my company, BV Companies, I’ve also had the opportunity to support community projects and local initiatives over the years.

Beyond titles and committees, my most important role is at home. I’m a husband to my wife, Dr. Marlaine Boyd, and a proud father of four. We are Christians, and for more than 20 years we’ve opened our home through the American Field Service - AFS Kansas City, hosting 11 foreign exchange students.

I created this page to share thoughts and conversations around community, leadership, service, and the issues that matter here. If these are conversations you care about too, I invite you to follow along, share your perspective, and be part of the dialogue.

Thanks for being here — I’m glad you’re part of the conversation.

Thank you all for following my page! I am very excited to be running for the District 1 City Council seat. I am a Marine Corps veteran, entrepreneur, and family man. My wife, Dr. Marlaine Boyd and I have lived in Blue Springs for nearly 20 years. In that time I have built a business in the community and she has been an educator in the Blue Springs school district.

We have four children: Rylan is 11, Syblie is 13, Sierra is 17, and Sydney is 19. Together, we have also hosted 9 exchange students over the last 14 years.

My wife and I love being a part of the Blue Springs community and cherish how it has a small town feel within a big city. We love that we can go to community events such as the Fall Fun Fest, the Mayor's Christmas tree lighting, or the summer car shows and see our neighbors, families from our kids' soccer teams, our co-workers, and for my wife- former students and their families!

Here are a few of the organizations, committees, and community programs that I have had the honor of serving with over the years here in the Community:

Blue Springs Public Safety Advisory Board
Blue Springs City Theater Board Member
Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce
Blue Springs VIPS (Volunteers in Police Service)
Blue Springs Citizens Police Academy Graduate
Blue Springs School District Advisory committee
Legislative Affairs Task Force Member
BOMA - Building Owners and Manager Association
ABC - Associated Builders and Contractors
CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) for eastern Jackson County. I Served as the Operations Section Chief, and then as President
CERT Instructor for CJCEMA
AFS Exchange Student Programs

I appreciate your support and hope to serve the community well in this capacity!!
