As many of you know, almost every Tuesday the Senior Center is blessed with a donation of short dated bread and the like. Yesterday, the Greenhorn restaurant had a program in the morning and had a lot of soup left over. The donated the soup to the Senior Center. I have put the soup in small containers in the refrigerator. The soup is mushroom miso and rice soup. It, like the bread is first come first serve. We also have squash available. Stop in and get enough food for a couple of meals.

As you probably know, anyone over 65 is eligible to receive a booster shot for COVID-19 six months after their last shot. If you are one of these people and want a booster, read on. For those who got the Pfizer vaccine, CVS in Bluffton has a shot for you. Call 419-369-4019 for an appointment. For those that got the Moderna vaccine, Pandora Pharmacy has you covered. Pandora is giving the shots on Wed and Fri to walk ins who are eligible or you can call 419-384-3303. Where ever you go, remember to take your vaccination card so it can be updated as well as your Medicare card and ID. Feel free to call me if you have any questions.

The 2021 Fall Festival has been cancelled as most of the primary locations have had to cancel due to the ongoing challenges of COVID-19. We know how much the community was looking forward to this event, and all of the organizers were so looking forward to bringing it back this year! All participating organizations have expressed their desire to continue the Festival in 2022.

The good news is that there are still activities scheduled in Bluffton on September 25th as part of the Bluffton Discovery Days put on by the Bluffton Chamber! Find more about these activities here; https://fb.me/e/2KzK04oxw

Next year’s Bluffton Fall Festival is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, September 24th, 2022. For updates and complete information, visit the website at blufftonfallfestival.com, or “like” our page at facebook.com/BlufftonFallFest.

Allen County is red and there are many COVID cases in Bluffton so we are taking the following precaution.
The Community Meal on Thursday, August 19 will be a drive thru only meal. The Presbyterian Church will be serving shredded chicken sandwiches, potato salad, watermelon wedge and cookie. The meal starts at 6 p.m. Enter the alley behind the Senior Center on the Family Dollar side and exit out behind the town hall. The meal is free but a good will offering will be taken for the food pantry.

Have you heard about the RTA bus that comes to Bluffton every Monday thru Friday? Last month, I took a small group of people to Lima on the bus to have lunch and basically figure out how to do it. We will be going again on July 28. Debbie and I will be going to Lima on the 10:45 bus, eating at either Cracker Barrel, Olive Garden or Texas Road House and then coming home again. We hope to come back on the 2:45 bus but if not, we would be home by 4:45. Everyone is invited to join us. This is a great way to learn how the bus system works. In August, Debbie will be taking anyone who wishes to the Allen County Fair on the bus on Senior Citizens Day.
Things to know before you go; masks are required on the bus as it is public transportation, the bus does not give change so exact change is best or you end up paying more, the bus fees are complicated so bring a bunch of ones and a few quarters, lunch is on your own and we will decide the restaurant based on who goes. Please let us know if you want to join us 419-358-8971. We will meet at the Senior Center at 10:30 on the 28.

Tomorrow, June 3 marks the return of in house Community Meals. The meal will be served at 6 p.m. by the Trinity United Methodist Church. They will be serving hot dogs, macaroni salad, potato salad, and dessert and drinks. If you are uncomfortable eating in, you may request a take out meal but you will need to come inside to do so. There will be no curb side service. I would suggest coming at 6:20 for take out orders as the in house crowd will be served at 6 p.m.
Thanks

Last week the governor announced a drawing for those who are vaccinated against the coronavirus for a chance to a million dollars. Governor DeWine announced yesterday that the Ohio Vax-a-Million drawing will be an opt-in program. Starting today, Ohioans will be asked to register for the drawings by visiting OhioVaxaMillion.com or by calling the Ohio Department of Health at 1-833-4-ASK-ODH. If you or someone you know needs help registering, stop by the Senior Center for help. If you need help registering for the vaccine, we can help with that also. Good luck everyone

Harlan and Pat Basinger experienced the thrill of the Colorado Vintage Railways as they toured with the Bluffton Senior Center in September, 2019. This week, they shared their journey with Maple Crest elders, with pictures from the first train out of Canon City to the last one out of Georgetown, completing a circle from Denver to Denver! The four trains took the Basingers through every type of terrain from sand dunes (believe it or not) to pine trees! Their love of travel will lead them in March to Spain, and we look forward to another adventure with them (after the fact)!
