Railroad Closings

⚠️ TOMORROW- RAILROAD CROSSING CLOSURE REMINDER ⚠️

As a reminder, several railroad crossings in the Montpelier–Bluffton–Kingsland area are expected to close as Norfolk Southern Railway completes railroad improvement work.

The following Bluffton crossings are expected to close TOMORROW:

• Hale Street
• Oak Street
• Wabash Street
• Market Street
• Cherry Street
• South Street

Update: The following crossings are expected to close Monday.
• Silver Street
• County Road 200 South

Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use caution near work zones. Washington Street and Wiley Avenue will remain open to help maintain access through the community.

Many local schools are heading into their final days of the school year. As summer break begins, here are a few reminders regarding Bluffton's juvenile curfew ordinance:

Juveniles must be in by 11:00pm or 1:00am depending on their age and day of the week.

Exceptions:
-Child accompanied by parent/guardian or adult specified by parent/guardian

Travel to/from:
-Employment
-School activity
-Religious event
-Other parent/guardian approved activity

Railroad work to begin today, May 19th.

🚧 Upcoming Railroad Crossing Closures 🚧

Several railroad crossings in the Montpelier-Bluffton-Kingsland area are expected to close beginning roughly May 19 through May 28 as railroad improvement work is completed.

Norfolk Southern Railway will work north-to-south through the list of crossings. Washington Street and Wiley Avenue in Bluffton will remain open to help maintain access through the community.

Planned closures include:
• CR300N
• Hale Street
• Oak Street
• Wabash Street
• Market Street
• Cherry Street
• South Street
• Silver Street
• CR200S
• Ash Road
• Wellsburg Road
• Meridian Road
• Main Street (SR 218 in Poneto)
• CR700S
…and several private/farm crossings.

⚠️ Important Notes:
• Each crossing is expected to reopen within approximately 2–3 days of closure.
• Construction schedules may shift due to weather, equipment availability, train traffic, or other operational needs.
• Additional crossings may be added or removed from the project as needed.
• Motorists should plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time.

Severe Weather Briefing May 18, 2026
The Storm Prediction Center has placed a Slight Risk (level 2/5) for severe weather today across the northern 2/3 of the state, with a Marginal Risk (level 1/5) across southern Indiana.

Between 12-1pm ET, a developing line of strong to severe thunderstorms will enter western Indiana. Storms will strengthen as they push eastward across the state during the afternoon hours. Additional strong to severe storms are expected during the evening hours before weakening after sunset.

Potential threats include:
Damaging wind gusts
Scattered large hail
Isolated tornadoes
Frequent lightning
Flash flooding
