FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Boonville Fire Department Responds to Residential Fire on Locust Street

On Saturday evening at approximately 7:51 PM, the Boonville Fire Department responded to the 1000 block of Locust Street for a reported residential fire.

Upon arrival, crews observed a small fire on the front porch with moderate smoke showing. Firefighters quickly extinguished the exterior fire before forcing entry into the residence to conduct a primary search. The home was confirmed to be unoccupied at the time, as it was undergoing remodeling.

While operating inside, crews encountered moderate smoke conditions and discovered that the fire had extended into the interior of the structure. Utilizing thermal imaging cameras, firefighters located a small amount of fire within an exterior wall and conducted overhaul operations to ensure complete extinguishment. Ventilation fans were then deployed to remove smoke from the residence.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is listed as undetermined at this time.

The Boonville Fire Department would like to thank our mutual aid partners, including Cooper County Joint Communications, Cooper County Fire Protection District, Cooper County Ambulance District, and the Boonville Police Department, for their assistance on this incident.

For additional information, please contact the Boonville Fire Department.

Did You Know?

When you call the Boonville Police Department for an emergency that is NOT law enforcement related—such as a fire, medical emergency, or rescue situation—your call does not go directly to Cooper County 911.

Instead, the Police Department must first take your information and then relay it to Cooper County 911. During this extra step:
Critical details can be unintentionally lost or miscommunicated.
Valuable seconds or even minutes can be delayed.
The response may not be as efficient as it could be.

When you dial 911 directly, you are immediately connected to trained emergency dispatchers who specialize in:
Medical, fire, and rescue call processing
Asking critical, life-saving questions
Determining the appropriate level of response
Providing pre-arrival instructions when needed

In addition, 911 dispatchers have advanced technology that allows them to:
More accurately pinpoint your location
Use mapping systems to guide responders quickly and efficiently
Dispatch the closest and most appropriate resources without delay

In an emergency, EVERY second matters!

For any emergency—fire, medical, or rescue—always call 911 first.

Help us spread the word and ensure our community gets the fastest, most effective emergency response possible.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Cooper County Sheriff’s Department and the Cooper County Commission for their generosity and support in allowing us to utilize their building during this time. Their partnership ensures we can remain ready to respond when our community needs us most.

Billy was always someone we could count on. Anytime the Boonville Fire Department needed help, advice, or support, Billy was willing to step up and lend a hand. His dedication to the fire service and his commitment to helping others made a lasting impact on our department and the entire local fire service community.

Billy was more than just a firefighter—he was a friend, a mentor, and a true public servant who cared deeply about the people and communities he served. His willingness to help others and his positive presence will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

We extend our deepest condolences to Billy’s family and to his brothers and sisters at the Columbia Fire Department during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Rest easy, Billy. Thank you for your service and the example you set for all of us.

Please remember to buckle up, pay attention, be courteous, and obey all traffic laws. Ensure you have a full tank of gas and supplies in your vehicle (blankets, food, water, etc.) in case of an emergency, as there could be delays in response times from first responders and/or tow trucks.

1. Plan your trip ahead. 🗺️
2. Make sure your phone is fully charged, have a spare battery and phone charger. 📱🔋
3. Have some snacks and plenty of water. 🥨

Winter Storm Update – Boonville Edition

A winter storm is headed our way… possibly. Maybe. There’s a chance. The forecast currently ranges anywhere from “dusting” to "Snow Apocalypse"

Before everyone rushes the store like it’s the apocalypse, a few reminders from the Boonville Fire Department:
Yes, milk, bread, and toilet paper are important — but you probably don’t need enough to survive until spring Slow down or just stay home — roads don’t care how confident you feel Salt and shovel early, even if you’re only clearing ¾ of an inch. Your back will thank you Space heaters need space, 3 feet from anything that can burn Use candles carefully, or not at all if possible Charge your devices, snow days drain batteries faster than kids drain snacks Check on your elderly neighbors, they would do it for you if they could Bring pets inside, they didn’t sign up for this weather and don't deserve to suffer

Whether we end up with several inches or just enough snow to cancel plans, please be safe. We’re ready to respond and will be adding extra personnel during this event. We would prefer to have a boring shift than to see someone experiencing an emergency

Stay warm, stay safe, and remember — Missouri weather always keeps us guessing.
