Change can be hard. Life events such as moving or starting a new job bring stress and uncertainty, and it can take time to adjust.

Recently, the Karson & Kennedy show on Mix 104.1 moved to a new studio location after nearly 20 years in their Brighton office space. The show’s hosts—Karson Tager and Kennedy Elsey—have openly discussed the challenges this move has brought. They sought a therapist who could support them.

“I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time—to have a show therapist,” Karson said. “When there are things going on in the world, it’s good to talk to a professional.”

Samaritans SafePlace meetings are caring support groups for su***de loss survivors. Meetings are facilitated by trained volunteers who have also lost a loved one to su***de. SafePlace is not a professional therapy group, but rather a peer support group providing a forum for exploring feelings often not understood by others. It offers a chance to share helpful resources, and to give and get support through the long process of grieving. Meetings are free, ongoing, and drop-in.

Join us at the 28th Annual Samaritans 5K for a powerful morning of connection, reflection, and hope dedicated to ending su***de together. Each year this event brings our community together during Su***de Prevention Month to honor loved ones lost to su***de and reduce the stigma associated with mental health struggles.

Whether you walk, run, roll, or cheer from the sidelines, your presence supports free, lifesaving programs —crisis services, community education, and support for those affected by su***de. Attend as an individual, start a team, or sign up as a volunteer.

Together, we can create a world without su***de.

Samaritans, Inc., the oldest su***de prevention organization in Massachusetts, has received a $1,041,330 grant from the Scripps Family Impact Fund to enhance and evolve its youth su***de prevention efforts. It is the largest one-time gift Samaritans has received since its founding in 1974.

Funding will enable Samaritans to expand Hey Sam and it's capacity through extended hours of operation and an increase in social media promotion and advertising. Samaritans will also use the funding to develop postvention grief support for teens who have lost a loved one to su***de, as well as create youth-centered educational content to increase awareness, reduce stigma, and offer accessible su***de prevention tools.

Youth up to age 24 can text 439-726 from 9 a.m. to midnight (ET) to receive free, confidential, nonjudgmental support from a trained peer. Since its inception in 2022, Hey Sam has answered more than 15,000 text conversations, including more than 5,000 in the past year alone.

July is Bereaved Parents Awareness Month. Losing a child is an unimaginable pain that can feel isolating and overwhelming. You may feel like no one truly understands the depth of your grief. For parents who have lost a child to su***de, this loss can be compounded by guilt, anger, or the weight of stigma surrounding your loss.

Growing up in a small town, Lisa had no family history of su***de and didn’t know anyone who had taken their own life. That changed when her daughter, Tess, died at the age of 25.

In Lisa’s early grief, she was consumed by sadness and guilt. She never thought she would outlive her child. She contacted a medium, which gave her comfort knowing that Tess was at peace. She also found a therapist and developed self-care strategies that she can turn to on hard days.

Today, six years into her grief journey, Lisa channels her loss into helping others as a volunteer with Samaritans Su***de Grief Support Services, including facilitating a SafePlace grief support group for parents and guardians who have lost a child to su***de.

If you have lost a child to su***de, you don’t have to navigate your grief alone. Samaritans Su***de Grief Support Services offer virtual and in-person groups for parents and guardians who have lost a child to su***de. Reach out at samaritanshope.org/gss to get connected with our caring community of loss survivors.
