Michael Bance’s Vision as State Delegate for Maryland’s 23rd District
My vision as State Delegate is to build a healthier, safer, and more prosperous community — one where opportunity, wellness, education, athletics, and local enterprise thrive across every generation in Prince George’s County.
As someone born and raised here, who played Boys & Girls Club sports in Landover Hills, graduated from Laurel High School and Bowie State University, I understand the values, challenges, and potential of our community firsthand. My journey — from teacher and coach to small business owner, mental health advocate, and corporate Tech & Software sales leader — has shown me that progress begins with people and grows when we invest in our roots.
I’m committed to advancing policies that:
• Empower working families through access to quality education, local job creation, small business growth, and expanded agricultural entrepreneurship.
• Support local farming initiatives — including Christmas tree farms, pumpkin patches, apple orchards, grape vineyards, and seasonal markets — creating family traditions while strengthening our local economy.
• Encourage agritourism that brings holiday Christmas tree selection experiences, pumpkin patch outings, apple picking, and vineyard events to District 23 — generating outside revenue, growing homegrown businesses, and expanding our commercial tax base.
• Lower property taxes by strategically leveraging commercial revenue growth, attracting responsible business investment, and broadening our economic foundation so homeowners are not carrying the financial burden alone.
• Expand financial literacy programs for youth and adults — teaching investing, saving, credit management, entrepreneurship, and real estate ownership — so families build generational wealth instead of generational debt.
• Designate and prioritize real estate development for athletic programs, training facilities, multi-sport complexes, and community recreation centers — ensuring our youth have structured, safe spaces to compete, train, and grow.
• Invest in sports-centered development that attracts tournaments, regional events, and sports tourism — creating jobs, stimulating local businesses, and positioning District 23 as a destination for athletic excellence.
• Prioritize mental and physical health, with expanded wellness programs for seniors, youth, and veterans.
• Strengthen community safety by investing in prevention, mentorship, and neighborhood partnerships.
• Champion education equity, ensuring every student in District 23 has access to modern learning tools, emotional support, agricultural education opportunities, after-school enrichment, and practical life skills.
My vision is simple — to ensure District 23 stands as a model of wellness, unity, innovation, and opportunity. A community where families create traditions together, homeowners benefit from a stronger commercial tax base, athletes have world-class spaces to train, businesses flourish year-round, and every resident — from our seniors to our students — has the tools to build wealth, live fully, and thrive boldly.
