Congratulations to Sgt. Andrew Taylor, as today he was recognized by the Bowling Green Kiwanis Club - Ohio as the 2026 Deputy Sheriff of the Year at their meeting. Sgt. Taylor was nominated for constantly going above and beyond every day at work. Sgt. Taylor is a shift supervisor on our Road Patrol and also is the field training officer coordinator. He manages the program with professionalism and fairness, always considering what is best for both the agency and employee. Sgt. Taylor constantly is asking others, “how can I help you today?” and often puts his own workload second to assist with anything that needs completed. Beyond the responsibilities with supervision of a shift and trainees; Sgt. Taylor also leads in self-imitated activity on patrol throughout the county and firmly believes that his job is to make positive connections with our citizens. We are so proud of you – congrats Sgt. Taylor!

Did you know that our incredible dispatch deputies occasionally deliver babies??? Congratulations to Deputy Rachael Swartz, who used her Emergency Medical Dispatching skills to help a citizen who called 911 last week and was in labor on the Turnpike, attempting to get to the hospital. Deputy Swartz provided step-by-step instructions on what to do before assistance could arrive and was able to successfully guide the delivery of the baby over the phone! Here is Deputy Swartz receiving her STORK PIN from her supervisor, Corporal Martinez for her 1st delivery! GREAT JOB DEPUTY SWARTZ!!!

Speaking of our Communications Center… the remodel is officially COMPLETE! We are loving our newly designed flow, and amazing space to give the citizens of Wood County the best dispatching services in the game! We gained a new layout of the room, along with 2 new desk positions to now have 10 individual workstations, along with beautiful carpet, lockers and really cool Blue LED lights at each console. Kudos to the team here at WCSO who made this all happen, along with our county commissioners who saw the need for the project and most importantly – the Deputies in the Comm Center who got through a remodel project in phases so that we could still dispatch our citizens the entire time during the construction!

Congratulations to Director Rod Smith on being awarded by the Perrysburg Exchange Club at their annual first responders awards dinner. Director Smith was tasked with building a brand new Organized Retail Theft Crime Task Force from the ground up. He has been able to establish a team that has quickly made remarkable progress in less than 1 year in Northwest Ohio retail stores. Great job!
