"Some people say evil of this degree is incomprehensible. They say we will never understand it. Some people even say that the word "evil'' is insufficient to describe the Holocaust, and instead they use terms like mad, crazy, insane. I think they're wrong.
What we saw there, at Treblinka and Belsen and Auschwitz and Dachau, was the image of the inferno. That may have been the ultimate purpose of those who made the Holocaust: a grotesque effort to hurl the Earth into the very pit of the serpent.
I believe the Holocaust is comprehensible. Indeed, we must comprehend it. We have no choice; the future of mankind depends upon it.

Speech at future site of Holocost Memorial Museum.
Although what has been suffered by the hostages held by Hamas and the prisoners from January 6, 2021, is not on the same scale as the holocost, we forget that the holocost didn't start as a huge effort.
It started with one man who could convince other men/women/children, that other people, a group of people, were bad. The movement then grew into a massive false ideology that affected the whole world and killed millions.
On Oct. 7, 2023, many people were just living their lives, some having fun, not even of the same race, ethnicity or country. And a group that came out of an evil ideology began a war.
On January 6th, many Americans were hugely disappointed with the loss of strong leadership and with the help of law enforcement officials and some very evil people disguised as supporters, went into a historical icon of our democracy where chaos, confusion and even death ensued.
The evil in charge then took advantage and arrested far too many innocent, and some not so innocent, people and ruined their lives as a show of force and maybe even a more sinister reason.
No, I would never want to dimish the horror of the Holocost, but if we don't purpose to remember how it all started, then we too could see that kind of evil again.
While the memorial date in Israel is not until spring, it is also celebrated on this day as the date that Auschwitz was liberated in 1945.
"We remember with tears the devastation of the Holocaust and all its horrific effects that linger to this day. We also remember the liberation that finally came and put the broken people of Israel on the road to restoration."
