Some days our thoughts can feel loud. Journaling can give them somewhere to go. Just start where you are and be open to exploring what may unfold on paper. This practice can help process what we may be feeling and provide a little insight into what we may be experiencing in the moment. Journaling can be a tool to release thoughts that no longer serve us.

While most people see Memorial Day as barbecues and long weekends, Ryan Warsen remembers August 16, 2012 – the day his brother made the ultimate sacrifice.

Navy SEAL David J. Warsen was 27 years old when his Black Hawk helicopter crashed in Afghanistan. As the oldest of four brothers, he was the leader of their sibling group known as "DARK," a nickname formed from their first initials: David, Aaron, Ryan, and Kyle. David was the one who held them all together.

Ryan didn't let the grief define him. He moved to Montana to serve the Special Operations community through The Station Foundation, and this year, his brother Kyle joined him. Together they work side by side, honoring the brother they lost.

Here, Ryan found community. He met his fiancée. He built a home where his daughter will grow up understanding what her uncle gave and why it matters.

This Memorial Day, as we honor our nation's fallen warriors, Ryan's story highlights the strength of Gold Star Families who carry on the legacies of their loved ones despite the weight of their loss.

Ryan lives that truth every day, and we are deeply honored to have him on our team – a Gold Star brother who inspires us all as he carries forward David's legacy through service.

Thank you, Oboz Footwear, for capturing the heart of what we do.

The stories of our Special Operations spouses – their resilience, their connection, their healing through nature – deserve to be told with care and authenticity. You've done exactly that.

This video beautifully showcases the incredible work our participants do when they come to The Station Foundation. They show up, they lean into community, and they find strength in the mountains and in each other.

We're grateful not just for your partnership in maintaining the SOCOM trail at Base Camp Jimmy, but for honoring these stories and helping us share our mission with the world.

At the recent Interwoven Fort Carson event, SOF spouses stepped into an experience centered on breath, presence, and resilience under pressure. Through shared challenge and intentional focus, participants practiced staying calm in unfamiliar environments and reconnecting to the moment. The experience invited them to move beyond words into embodied practice – learning how steadiness feels in the body and how to access it when challenged.

In partnership with Navy Federal Credit Union, Interwoven Camp Lejeune presented a hands-on workshop for Special Ops families to engage in conversation, share ideas, and embrace moments of connection that stretched far beyond the table.

Notes were scattered, laughter carried across the room, and families began imagining futures side by side.

You could feel the shift happening in real time; confidence growing, walls softening, and the reminder that the strongest foundations are built together.

Most mental health conversations weren’t built with the Special Operations community in mind. The language is different. The culture is different. The barriers are different.

And while not everyone doing this work comes from the SOF community itself, trust is built by people willing to understand it deeply. That’s why who is in the room matters — and for us, that person is Don.

Meet Don McCasland, LCSW - The Station’s Director of Mental Health. Don retired from the U.S. Army after more than 21 years of service, including three deployments to Iraq with the 101st Airborne Division. Over the years, his own journey through PTSD, moral injury, and what he describes as his “soul wound” has led him to this work.

He has spent time dedicating himself to understanding the unique realities faced by the SOF community, earning trust through relationship, humility, and lived experience. And it’s what makes him someone worth having in your corner.

Having someone who understands this world and genuinely believes in healing isn’t a luxury for us. It’s a foundation.

Karen spent years not recognizing herself. Deployments, moves, putting everything on hold. Then she finally asked: Who am I? That question brought her back to an old dream of becoming a nurse.

Karen is one of our alumni, and her time here mattered. The spouse programs gave her a place to reconnect with parts of herself she'd set aside. Being part of this community, and later giving back to it, helped her remember who she was.

Now she's a NICU nurse, changing how care works in one of the most stressful places in medicine. She dims lights, uses soft music, creates calm for fragile newborns and their families – techniques so effective they're being written into care plans.

It comes from something she learned here: when one person is grounded, it can help steady a room, allowing everyone around them to breathe a little easier.

Military spouses in Special Operations know what it's like to lose yourself in the demands and uncertainty of the lifestyle. Karen's story says you can find your way back and the community that sees you makes all the difference.
