🫡 NMRTU China Lake transfers leadership at change of charge ceremony

Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Unit China Lake transferred leadership during a change of charge ceremony on July 10 at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, as Lt. Cmdr. Alex R. Stulo relieved Cmdr. William “PJ” Martin as officer in charge.

The ceremony recognized Martin's dedicated leadership and welcomed Stulo as he assumes responsibility for leading the unit. As officer in charge, Stulo will also lead Navy Medicine Readiness and Detachment Bridgeport, with operates Branch Health Clinic Bridgeport.

Corpsman Up: NMRTD Bridgeport Honors Hospital Corps Legacy, Welcomes Dewert Family at 128th Birthday Celebration ⚓

On June 16, 2026, Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Detachment (NMRTD) Bridgeport, located at the DeWert Branch Health Clinic, celebrated a major milestone: the 128th birthday of the United States Navy Hospital Corps.

Held in the Chow Hall of the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center, nestled in the remote and rugged High Sierras, the celebration carried profound historical significance. The event featured the distinguished presence of the family of Medal of Honor Recipient and clinic namesake, Hospitalman Richard D. Dewert. Special guests Patricia Dewert, Kelly Davidson, Nicholas Winn, and Brittany Davidson were in attendance, witnessing firsthand how the Dewert legacy continues to inspire and impact the Hospital Corps today.

The gathering served as a powerful reminder of military heritage and Esprit de Corps. It uniquely brought together the operational Mountain Medicine Hospital Corpsman unit and the shore-based Clinic Corpsman staff for a joint celebration.

This unified event established a foundational line of effort for the clinic’s future integration with the Mountain Medicine training cadre, directly supporting Mountain Warfare Training operations in Bridgeport. Ultimately, the ceremony highlighted NMRTD Bridgeport’s commitment to the Warrior Ethos and the Corpsman Pledge. By honoring their past, the personnel reinforced their dedication to "brilliance in the basics" and maintained a ready, willing nature to support the warfighter’s mission—whenever and wherever they are needed.

China Lake, CA - On April 22nd and 23rd, 2026, Petty Officer Third Class Angel Lopez (left) provided vital support by volunteering to ensure proper N95 mask fitting for 40 active-duty sailors and five DOW contractors. His efforts achieved 100% compliance with DHA mask fitting requirements for China Lake Health Clinic. Additionally, he conducted training for one Petty Officer 2nd Class, enhancing the Respiratory Protection Program Management at NMRTU China Lake. HM3 Lopez’s team-first mindset and willingness to support was a clear demonstration of NMRTD Bridgeport's commitment to generate and sustain warfighter readiness.

BRIDGEPORT, CA – Naval Medical Readiness and Training Detachment (NMRTD) Bridgeport continues to advance the skills of its medical team by hosting a comprehensive suture class on April 10, 2026. The hands-on training was expertly conducted by LT Catherine Thomas, a Family Medicine physician and the department head at NMRTD Bridgeport.

During the session, medical personnel practiced and refined their wound closure techniques, a critical skill for providing effective care in both clinical and operational environments. Under the mentorship of LT Thomas, participants worked with training models to gain proficiency in the precise and essential tasks of suturing. This type of practical, hands-on training is fundamental to building a confident and competent medical force.

Born from a need for unparalleled leadership on April 1, 1893, the rank of Chief Petty Officer is more than a position; it is a sacred trust. For 133 years, Chiefs have been the living embodiment of naval heritage and the guiding force for sailors, revered as master technicians, profound mentors, and the guardians of tradition. They are the leaders forged in the crucible of the sea, who transform crews into families and transform challenges into victories.
