The Philadelphia Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) has requested a statewide SERVPA Mobilization in response to the Papal Visit occurring in Philadelphia in late September. To register for this please contact [email protected] . This is not binding, you are indicating you have a strong interest and anticipate being available. The Papal Visit will be a massive three-day, high-profile event. A mid-level estimate is that 2 million people from across the world will be convening in Center City Philadelphia for the weekend Papal appearances and his open public mass on Sunday. It is estimated that Philadelphia will require an additional 2,000 medical personnel to meet anticipated needs. To put this in perspective, this will draw larger crowds than Presidential Inaugurations and Super Bowls, and will be the largest Level 1 National Security Special Event (NSSE) in the nation's history. A disaster declaration from the Governor is possible. MRCs statewide are being looked to as a major source for needed medical and non-medical personnel. Please consider deploying to this historic and exciting event!!! Types of Volunteers Needed: Medical AND Non-Medical Volunteers Transportation: If you reside outside of Philadelphia, you may be transported at no cost from a Rally Point near your home to central Philadelphia and back at the end of the deployment. Most likely, the vehicles will be chartered coach buses. Potential Duties: Variable based on your skill set. Medical volunteers may work at medical stations providing medical care. Others may assist with patient tracking, logistics, coordination, call centers, or other duties as needed. Lodging & Food: Lodging would be in a school gymnasium on cots with provided food. Physical Fitness: Volunteers must be able to walk several miles and stand on their feet for much of the shifts Security Clearance: Further information from you may be required to conduct the required background checks, including your date of birth and/or address. These will be collected at a later date.
