Today, we proudly recognize Officer Andrew McDonald and his K-9 partner Odin on their graduation from the New Jersey State Police Canine Training Academy. After months of intensive training, dedication, and hard work, Salem City Police Officer McDonald and K-9 partner Odin successfully completed Patrol Class #26 & Scent Class #41. Their achievement represents countless hours of discipline, teamwork, and commitment to protecting the residents of Salem City.

K-9 Odin now joins the Salem City Police Department as a highly trained police service dog capable of tracking, evidence recovery, narcotics detection, and assisting officers. The bond between a handler and K-9 is built on trust, loyalty and relentless training. Today’s graduation marks the beginning of that partnership in service to our city. We are proud of your dedication and look forward to the positive impact you will make for the City of Salem.

Congratulations Officer McDonald & K-9 Odin! 🐾🇺🇸🚔

🚨❄️Winter storm emergency notice ❄️🚨

Snow is coming. Move your car. Stay home. Keep Salem safe. 🚨 City of Salem – Winter Storm Emergency Notice 🚨

Governor Mikie Sherrill has declared a State of Emergency, and a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 8:00 PM Monday, with snowfall totals that could reach up to 14 inches.

This is expected to be a major storm. The City of Salem is implementing the following emergency measures to protect public safety and allow for efficient snow removal.

❄️ Parking Restrictions – Effective Immediately

Pursuant to City Code Chapter 225-16, when snow accumulation covers the roadway, parking is prohibited on the following streets:

Entire Length:
Broadway
Chestnut Street
Grant Street
Griffith Street
Keasbey Street
Walnut Street
Yorke Street

Portions Of:
Front Street (Bridge to Broadway)
Market Street (Fenwick Bridge to Broadway)
Tilbury (to City limits)

🚫 Vehicles parked in these areas will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Parking remains prohibited until streets are plowed sufficiently to allow normal traffic flow.

🚗 All Other Streets

Residents are strongly encouraged to remove vehicles from all City streets immediately to allow Public Works to plow efficiently.

For the next 72 hours, temporary parking will be permitted on grass and other off-street areas to assist with snow operations.

🏠 Shelter in Place Advisory

For the next 48 hours, residents are strongly advised to shelter in place.

Unless there is an emergency, do not drive. Fewer vehicles on the road means safer and faster snow removal.

Additional police personnel will be working throughout the weekend to ensure public safety.

If you encounter a hazardous or dangerous condition, call 911 immediately.

Please monitor official City of Salem channels for updates and share this notice with neighbors who may not receive City notifications.

Your cooperation is essential as we work together to keep Salem safe during this storm.

📢 Citywide Revaluation Has Started
The State of New Jersey and the Salem County Board of Taxation require Salem to complete a full revaluation for the 2027 tax year. This is not optional — the Mayor and City Council are required by law to move forward.
📬 Letters have already been mailed to all property owners, and inspectors from Professional Property Appraisers, Inc. are now in the field.
🏛️ Need more information?\
A Revaluation Q&A Brochure is available at City Hall: 125 W. Broadway, and it explains what inspectors look for, how values are determined, and what residents can expect.
If you have questions, please contact the Tax Assessor’s Office at 856-935-0372 x217.
Thank you for your cooperation as we complete this mandatory process to ensure fair and equitable assessments across the city.
