Massachusetts House Bill H.5469 is a major transparency and legislative audit bill. Introduced by House Democrats, the legislation severely limits the scope of audits the State Auditor can perform on the legislature and restricts the judiciary from intervening in audit disputes.

Brockton residents deserve better.

In November 2024, nearly 72% of Massachusetts voters approved Question 1, giving the State Auditor authority to audit the Legislature. The message from voters was clear: they want greater transparency and accountability on Beacon Hill.

Now, legislation being considered by the Massachusetts House would limit the scope of those audits, prompting criticism from State Auditor Diana DiZoglio and others who argue that it undermines the will of the voters.

If Brockton's State Representatives vote in favor of restricting the audit authority approved by nearly 72% of voters, they will be voting against the clear wishes of the people they were elected to represent.

Transparency should not be partisan. Accountability should not be optional. When voters speak so decisively, elected officials have a duty to respect their decision.

Brockton residents deserve representatives who stand with the voters—not against them.

It’s one thing for Campbell to take lawmakers’ position in the matter and for her office to represent them; it's another for her to take the extreme view that the auditor cannot hire her own attorney.
