MTA to Perform Major Switch Replacement Work on DNR Lines Next Month to Improve System Reliability

- The MTA will Replace Switches North of Atlantic Av-Barclays Center to Reduce Delays and Improve Reliability Throughout the System

- Project Requires Three Weekends in October With Selected Service in Manhattan and Brooklyn; Supplemented by Free Shuttle Buses and Alternate Subway Service

- Extended Access to Tracks Allows Crews to Accelerate Track Maintenance and Drain Cleaning, NYCDOT Will Perform Inspectionof Manhattan Bridge

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced that crews will replace track switches and perform an array of other improvement projects on the dnr lines beginningon Oct. 9, which will lead to improved reliability and better service throughout the lines in Brooklyn, The Bronx, Manhattan and Queens. The work will require three weekends with selected service in Manhattan and Brooklyn, which will be supplemented by freeshuttle buses and alternate subway service.

Replacing track switches north of Atlantic Av-Barclays Center will allow the D,N and R lines to move safely between the local and express tracks while providing operational flexibility, reducing delays and improving reliability. The switches were last replaced in 1996 and have reached the end of their useful life. They are located on a curved portionof track and wear more rapidly.

"Building on the success of the recently completed Union Square track project we are again taking advantage of this period of low ridership to get work done and make sure the system is upgraded," said Janno Lieber,President of MTA Construction & Development. “Completing this track work now will benefit New Yorkers returning to the system in the coming months.”

“Despite the challenges the MTA is facing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, our crews are still completing projects that improve the reliability, performance and safety of our system,” said Sarah Feinberg, Interim President, NYCTransit. “This work is crucial in moving towards a modernized system that results in as few disruptions as possible for our riders.”

The D, N and R lines are currently carrying approximately 33% to 50% of pre-pandemic weekend ridership, between 44,000 and 65,000 riders, reducing the disruption of the work and impacting as few riders as possible. The impact on customers is also significantly reduced due to theongoing overnight subway shutdown between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m., during which there is robust alternate service available on MTA buses.

While this switch replacement work is happening, MTA Construction & Development and other departments from across NYC Transit will use the track access to also perform a multitude of other reliability improvementprojects, including track maintenance and drain cleaning. The NYC Department of Transportation will also perform inspections on the Manhattan Bridge.

The work is being performed during the following weekends from 9:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:
1.Oct. 9-12
2.Oct. 16-19
3.Oct. 23-26

Free shuttle buses will run between Atlantic Av-Barclays Center and 9 Av, and between Broadway-Lafayette St and Grand St, serving all skipped stations on 4 Av. The MTA will honor free MetroCard transfers for subway-shuttle and bus-subwaytrips in Brooklyn.

•D trains will operate in two sections; between 34 St-Herald Sq and 205 St in Manhattan and the Bronx, and between9 Av and Coney Island in Brooklyn
1.Customers can transfer to the nq forservice between Manhattan and Brooklyn
2.Free shuttle buses will run between Atlantic Av-Barclays Center nq and9 Av d, and between Broadway-Lafayette St f and Grand St

•N trains will operate in two sections: between Astoria and Brighton Beach, and between 36 St/4 Av and Coney Island
1.Customers can transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Center or 36 St/4 Av for free connecting shuttle bus

•R trains will operate in two sections: between Forest Hills and Whitehall St, and between 36 St/4Av and Bay Ridge
1.Customers can transfer to the nq forservice between Manhattan and Brooklyn
2.Free shuttle buses will serve all r stations between Atlantic Av-Barclays Center and 36 St/4 Av

MTA officials began outreach about the work with local elected officials and community boards during the first week of September. Follow-up conversations will continue throughout the duration of the projects.

The MTA will post both print and digital signage in stations, along with announcements in stations and on trains ahead of the scheduled work. Customer service notifications will be made on trains, posted at affectedstations and posted on the MTA website, the MYmta app and social media. Customers can also sign up for text and email alerts at www.myMTAalerts.com.

Will you be voting to repeal 50-A? I live in your district and I vote early and often.
Do not let fear grip you my fellow Americans... The new Founding fathers have arrived to DC, We will over the next decade be acquiring key political positions across America in order to uphold the US constitution and to initiate sweeping changes to the justice system and ingrain equality into not only the legal system but the entire political system... We the people of America should and will be represented in our political system. The Purge initiative:
The Purge initiative: Thomas Jefferson said, “God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. ... And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure.” Every 20 years the political system must be wiped away and renewed... The purge initiative will create term limits for congress and begin an initiative that every 20 years 1/3 of congress will have income limit requirements for their seats to be filled, so once again the common American citizen can be represented in the American political system. Imagine if you will a young woman age 24 working shifts at McDonald’s while attending law school given the opportunity to run for congress and win not because she is rich enough to buy it, but because the American people believe in her ideals and her ability to lead. Thanks to the new founding fathers, this will become a real possibility for America... Equality, freedom, and Justice We the people are The new Founding Fathers and we offer America: The Purge... Are you ready to purge?
Called your office this morning seeking your position on repealing 50-A, as I was disappointed not to see you as a cosponsor. However, I only got voice mail. Do you have a position on repealing 50-A? Have you, or do you plan to, release a position statement on the legislation?

Yesterday was Mother's Day as you noted! Moms are so important, that's why we respect them by taking care of them at home. Keeping them out of deathtrap nursing homes is vital, Senator Velmanette Montgomery. As a member of the Senate's Health Committee, you know that home care is the safest and cheapest, especially now. Resist the governor's cuts to home care and keep home care personnel coming. They deserve hazard pay, too! #SaveCDPA #MedicaidMatters
please help! Trying for weeks to get through to the unemployment line & cannot. Running out of cash. Help help!
NO ROLL BACKS ON BAIL REFORM. This is shady and anti democratic to try to pass such substantial changes without public comment. For the tens of thousands of New Yorkers who will be subject to pretrial jailing because of these rollbacks. As a constituent, VOTE NO ON ROLLBACKS to BAIL AND DISCOVERY REFORMS
Thank you for cosponsoring S8125! This is a scary time for all of us, and it's good to know we have you fighting on our behalf!
Mrs. Brooke Jordan of Clifton Park, NY testifying yesterday before a joint committee of the Connecticut legislature describing the consequences for her family of the repeal of the religious exemption from vaccine mandates in New York, and on the impossibility of getting a medical exemption in New York. No one in the New York legislature heard Mrs. Jordan's or anyone else's story because they could be bothered to hold a hearing before repealing the exemption. The New York State Senate Health Committee didn't even bother to have a vote on the repeal bill, it just went straight to the floor. Pleas post to your Assemblymember's and State Senator's page.
