“Twenty years ago today, the 9/11 attacks forever changed our world and ourselves. I know for many it seems like a lifetime ago. For others, it seems as though it was only yesterday. I know for many others, it seems as though it was just yesterday. The terror of September 11th left an imprint on our city, our country, and ourselves which can never be erased. Though any of us would give all we have if only it never happened, all we can do moving forward with our recovery is to remember it did happen. And to remember the remarkable strength and genuine goodness we have seen in its wake. For two decades, neighbors have been there for neighbors, communities have come together, and our city has refused to give up. Your unrelenting resiliency in the face of unspeakable tragedy never fails to serve as a source of inspiration to myself. For that, you have my eternal gratefulness. Let us pray for every life lost that fateful day, and let us promise to #NeverForget.”

🚨: Housing a human right, and for the estimated 6.5 million Americans facing eviction nationwide, the patchwork safety net of state laws and emergency executive orders is not enough to stave off this crisis. We must extend the national eviction moratorium until at least December 31, 2021. That is why I am proud to co-lead H.R. 4791, The Protecting Renters From Evictions Act of 2021.

The federal eviction moratorium assists our most vulnerable and provides housing security during this devastating pandemic. But, let me be very clear, this pandemic is not over. As cases of the Delta variant continue to rise, I cannot forget since the start of the pandemic, more than 62,000 eviction cases have been filed in New York City Housing Court, despite a statewide eviction moratorium. And while New York State’s eviction moratorium is not set to expire until the end of August, that is not enough.

I am calling for the House of Representatives to reconvene and vote to pass H.R. 4791 immediately. Additionally, I am asking my colleagues in the Senate to take swift and immediate action and pass the senate companion bill, so that President Biden can sign this extension into law. This cannot wait, and we cannot yield. It is time for action.

CLARK LEADS NEW YORK CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION LETTER TO ACTING ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF STATE BROWNLEE AND POST MASTER GENERAL LOUIS DEJOY REGARDING DELAYS IN THE ISSUANCE OF PASSPORTS. - Congresswoman Yvette Clarke

My staff recently attended a U.S. Department of State briefing on #PassportServices. While there are efforts being made to meet demands, #NewYorkers are still facing unprecedented wait times and this is unacceptable. That is why my colleagues and I penned a letter to the U.S. Department of State on June 30th. We are confident the U.S. Department of State is working to rectify, however, we will continue to encourage a swift and comprehensive response to this issue.

Yesterday my bill #HR3138: the State and Local Cybersecurity Improvement Act:

➡It authorizes $500 million annually for grants to State, local, Territorial, and Tribal governments to upgrade their cybersecurity.

➡It requires States to pay a graduated cost share to incentivize them to budget better for cybersecurity, and it requires them to develop cybersecurity plans, so we ensure these funds are well-spent.

➡It also requires the Department of Homeland Security to create a plan to improve the cybersecurity posture of State and local governments to ensure that states have goals and objectives to which they align their own cybersecurity plans.

This legislation coupled with President Joe Biden's
recent EO, along with investments included in the #AmericanRescuePlan, demonstrate a continued commitment to strengthening Federal cybersecurity.

Judge Rules DACA Is Unlawful and Suspends Applications

This disappointing attack on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program makes it clear we must remain committed to supporting undocumented children and providing a viable, humane pathway to citizenship in this country.

As Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Immigration Taskforce, one of the six women known as the ‘Closers’ selected by Speaker Pelosi to champion immigration reform and pathway to citizenship legislation in the House of Representatives, a Senior Member of the House Homeland Security Committee and most importantly, the daughter of Jamaican Immigrants this ruling is deeply troubling.

This ruling does not change the status of existing DACA recipients, meaning those who currently have DACA can still renew. However, the Department of Homeland Security is temporarily prohibited from approving new applications. Let me be very clear, this ruling will be appealed, however, tens of thousands of new DACA applicants who have submitted their applications will be barred from receiving protections against deportation and work authorization during the appeal process.

The only viable response is a permanent legislative solution fortifying DACA and creating a pathway to citizenship. Our immigration system is broken, full stop. We must reimagine the immigration system in a manner that is humane, just, and fair. The time has come for the values of our nation to be reflected in our immigration policies.

FACT SHEET: Executive Order on Promoting Competition in the American Economy | The White House

I applaud the Biden Administration's decision to take executive action to promote competition throughout the U.S. economy.

This action aims to lower prescription drug prices, ban or limit non-compete agreements that impede economic mobility and cracks down on Big Tech and internet service providers.

Specifically, the provisions to address a lack of competition in the broadband sector and combating digital redlining practices will dramatically subvert barriers faced by historically underrepresented and marginalized communities.

Additionally, I am so proud the Administration has incorporated my legislative equity agenda combating digital redlining in this executive action.

Ending this type of anti-competitive practice promotes equitable access to high-quality broadband as more Americans rely on online learning and remote working more than ever before, and is a crucial step towards an economy that works for everyone.

On July 4th, we celebrate the independence of the United States. We commemorate the innovation and ingenuity that — while there is still much to do and accomplish — has set the stage for a future of which we can all one day be proud. This Independence Day, I want to wish every American, whether natural citizen, immigrant, TPS holder, or Dreamer, a happy Independence Day because, let me be very clear, this nation would not be what it is today if it weren’t for the strength that emanates from our cultural diversity. Happy July 4th! Stay safe. Stay healthy, enjoy the fireworks, and most importantly, take good care!

Today is #DACADay Number 9. Immigrant youth won DACA and defended the program successfully, but it has never been enough. We must deliver citizenship for millions of young people, TPS holders, and essential workers through the next reconciliation package.
