HOODWINKED A MUST SEE JUNE 12th 2013
HOODWINKED A MUST SEE JUNE 12th 2013
In 2007 Janks Morton's independent documentary WHAT BLACK MEN THINK, took the nation by storm with one simple question..."Are there more Black Men in jail or college?" Because of the plethora of misinformation, stereotypes and misperceptions around Black male identity, most respondents answered "jail."
In the sequel titled HOODWINKED, Mr Morton, armed with current research, statistics, data and the arm and weight of organizations like the US Census Bureau, The Department of Education, The Department of Justice and other government agencies reporting social, economic and racial data, Mr. Morton will once again systematically dismember multiple cultural falsehoods about Black Male Identity. CDC Vital Signs: Getting Blood Pressure Under Control
About 67 million adults have high blood pressure. More than half (36 million) have uncontrolled high blood pressure. High blood pressure is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke, the first and fourth leading causes of death in the United States, leading to nearly 1,000 deaths a day. The majority of people with high blood pressure are being treated with medicine, yet their condition is still not under control. Millions more are either aware they have high blood pressure but aren't getting any treatment with medicine or don't know they have high blood pressure. The September issue of CDC's Vital Signs highlights the importance of awareness and treatment for adults with uncontrolled hypertension. Adults with high blood pressure can gain control by taking their blood pressure medicine. Find out why you should know your blood pressure numbers and what to do about it... Chris Rock and Nia Long, talks Oprah and Good Hair
Chris Rock and Nia Long, talks Oprah and Good Hair
A question from Chris Rocks daughter jumpstarted the making of Good Hair, but the idea for a documentary about the culture of black hair actually took root in Rocks head about 15 years ago while doing a stand-up gig in Atlanta. He noticed his hotel was packed with people, and everyone seemed to be there for the same reason: the Bronner Bros. Hair Show. Hed never heard of it, but to the over 100,000 attendees its a yearly tradition stretching back to the early 50s, with hairstylists, barbers, and hair fanatics from all over the world coming together to discover whats new, best, and different in black hair care. It was a massive gathering, and Rock couldnt believe what a passionate, colorful crowd they were. In short, Rock discovered what a big crazy business black hair was.
I've been around hairdressers my whole life, he says, but I'd never seen anything like this it was just a whole another vibe. So 15 years ago, I had the idea this would make a great film.
The idea laid dormant until years later when Rocks daughter asked about her bad hair. He was astonished. I tell my daughters I love them 70 times a day, he says. I hug them and I kiss them I'm that kind of dad. To hear my daughter did not like something about herself when I'm telling her she's beautiful every single minute of the day really had me thinking about hair again.
She was only five at the time, he continues, and she was already having concerns about her hair shes already having hair envy. I felt I needed to understand more deeply how these issues are related: African-American women and their hair. And then I remembered the idea for a documentary.

Black Women: Lesson For the Single Ladies
Black Women: Lesson For the Single Ladies
Would the "I can't find a black man on my level because of my success" argument be made null and pointless if these propaganda shows that prey on lonely black women, would actually showcase the numbers of happily married successful black women in the United States, who have wonderful, loving husbands of AFRICAN heritage?
Are the majority of so called successful black women really unable to find a man because of their level of " success"? Their social "status"?, or is it their mindsets? Different views and perspectives ~EbonyLoveAndMarriage Via ~ Dr. Mona Love for Black News and Views

Angela Davis on the "Racialization" of Terrorism May 3, 2013
Angela Davis on the "Racialization" of Terrorism, From Assata Shakur May 3, 2013Watch the full interview with Angela Davis on Democracy Now! athttp://owl.li/kGdcY. The legendary activist and scholar Angela Davis tells Democracy Now! that the FBI's adding of former Black Panther Assata Shakur to its Most Wanted Terrorists List exemplifies a longstanding "racialization" of terrorism in the United States, and an effort to deter the young activists Shakur has inspired today. "When the grandchildren of those who were active in the late '60s and early '70s are becoming involved in similar movements today, there is this effort to again terrorize young people by representing such an important figure as Assata Shakur as a terrorist," Davis says. "Before the Tsarnev brothers were discovered to be the alleged perpetrators [of the Boston Marathon bombings], there was an attempt to present the person who planted the bomb as either a black man or a dark skinned man with a hoodie. This racialization of what is represented as terrorism is an attempt to bring the old-style racism into the conversation with modes of repression in the 21st century."
In 1998, Democracy Now! aired the audio of Assata Shakur reading her open letter she wrote to Pope John Paul II during his trip to Cuba in 1998 after the FBI asked him to urge her extradition. Listen at https://soundcloud.com/democracynow/a...

HAVING CHILDREN OUT OF WEDLOCK: BLACK CHILDREN NEED FATHERS
IF YOU ARE A FATHER THAT HAS NEGLECTED HIS RESPONSIBILITY TO HIS CHILDREN OR A MOTHER RAISING CHILDREN BY YOUR SELF YOU NEED TO WATCH THIS: HAVING CHILDREN OUT OF WEDLOCK ~ DR. RICK ADAMS VIA ~Dr. Mona Love
Large numbers of women having children out of wedlock. Children of unmarried mothers of any race are more likely to perform poorly in school, go to prison, use drugs, be poor as adults, and have their own children out of wedlock. The black community's 72 percent rate is higher the other groups: 17 percent of Asians, 29 percent of whites, 53 percent of Hispanics and 66 percent of Native Americans.
Most researchers now agree that on average, children do best when raised by their two married, biological parents who have low-conflict relationships. They found that children who did not live with both biological parents were roughly twice as likely to be poor, to have a birth outside of marriage, to have behavioral and psychological problems, and to not graduate from high school.
