As Nurses Appreciation Week comes to an end, we want to highlight one more nurse from our mission partner, the NYC Medical Recruiting Company. 1st Lt. Iris Garcia has 5 years of experience in the nursing profession and was recently recruited as an Intensive Care Nurse.

When asked what she loves most about her profession, she says, "Seeing the happy faces that leave the hospital once they have recovered, and how we get to help the families that are suffering for their loved ones. If I get to put a smile in my patients faces, I consider that a win. There are big wins but a collective of small wins makes a huge difference. Being able to hold someone’s hand during the most vulnerable time is another win, just being there quietly listening or giving someone a look that says 'I know you can’t tell me how you feel but I am here' that is a win."

She also shared what she is most proud of: "Other than my beautiful daughter who I just gave birth to during nurses week, I am most proud of my education; all I have been able to accomplish due to nursing; how I am able to serve my country due to nursing; and how I am able to make a difference because of nursing. All of this makes me proud."

Warmest congratulations on the birth of your baby girl and thank you for all that you do Lt. Garcia!

In honor of #LawEnforcementWeek, we salute Police Officer Nicholas Mosby. He's native of Staten Island & served in the U.S. Army for eight years as military police. He served at Fort Hamilton before transitioning to NYPD for the past seven years. What he loves about his job is getting to help people on a daily basis. The life skills he found most useful from the Army was how to best deal with stressful situations and work with others. His goals are to continue to work with NYPD and serve the community the best way he can. Thank you PO Mosby for serving our base, our great city and this country.
