E279 and L131 operated at this tragedy.

FDNY remembers the 134 individuals who lost their lives 60 years ago today, December 16, when a United Airlines DC-8 jet collided with a TWA Constellation over NY airspace. The Constellation crashed on Miller Field on Staten Island, while the DC -8 jet crashed in Park Slope, Brooklyn at the intersection of 7th Avenue and Sterling Place. All 128 passengers onboard both planes and six people on the ground in Brooklyn were killed. At the time, this was the deadliest aviation disaster in the world.

“Our units arrived in three minutes, very fast response time. Upon arrival we had heavy fire showing from the corner building on East 7th Street. We quickly transmitted additional alarms to get more help here. We knew this was going to be a big operation. Fire had extended into the church on 2nd Avenue and also into another building on 7th Street. We had all of our units in position and we were quickly able to contain it to that area. We have four minor injuries to Firefighters at this time. We are going to be operating here for a while. The fire is under investigation by our marshals,” says FDNY Assistant Chief John Hodgens from the scene of the 6-alarm fire at 48 East 7th Street in Manhattan. Photos shown here were taken earlier in the operation. (Photo Credit: FDNY Response Videos)

Great job by another Brooklyn firehouse!

A man attack an elderly man in front of a firehouse but Gotham City firefighters sprung into action as they chased down & took the attacker into custody. Once again, #FDNY to the rescue!

It is with a heavy heart that I want to let you know this sad news... On July 24, retired hero John Keyes answered the final alarm. He was very proud to have been a member of your family -the Happy Hookers.
Mooie site boy,s top.👍👍
Today live at 1pm on www.wbai.org we’ll be joined by Jay Aronson, author of Who Owns The Dead? The Science and Politics of Death at Ground Zero as well as 9/11 victims advocate Sally Regenhard who lost her 28-year-old son Christian, a FDNY probie, whose remains have yet to be identified 17 years later. We’ll discuss the ongoing forensic investigation and fight to remove remains from a repository 70 feet underground in a flood zone.
My Father, Theodore Malinowski, passed away at 92 years old on Tuesday. He was a retired Captain at the FDNY and was a Lieutenant at Ladder 131 for many years. I wanted to post this because no matter what age, retired or not, you always proudly define yourself as part of the brotherhood of the FDNY. Here is his obituary: http://m.legacy.com/obituaries/nytimes/obituary.aspx?n=&pid=187119185&referrer=0&preview=True
